Alex, I'm bringing my in-car video camera. I hope to get some great images of the M2000 on the track. I figure that if I go out with you while you warm the new baby up, I may have a shot at keeping up with you .
Let me be the first to CONGRATULATE Alex on a job well done! The M2000 debut at Homestead was a complete success. The car ran great - although I will mention that gasoline IS required for the internal combustion process . The support shown by the local S2000 community was inspiring.
See this thread for photos and commentary on the event.
I will continue to update this thread with our continued progress which has now turned from building to tuning. Some technical notes from the weekend:
1) The tune needs some cleaning up in the 5300-9600rpm area.
2) We found a vacuum leak which will change the tune slightly when plugged so we have some work to do there as well.
3) As expected, -0.8 camber in the front is not enough. We will be redesigning the exhaust to gain more ground clearance and possibly add another resonator or a muffler.
4) Once we gain some ground clearance, I'll lower the car which will help with front camber, front splitter aero, roll center, etc.
5) I need a new oil cap =)
6) The "Gauges" circuit which controls the 3 prosport gauges, the S2000 gauge cluster, and the alternator power feed to the battery apparently needs a larger fuse than 5A, I'll try a 7A.
7) The warning function on the gauges keeps resetting, I have to figure out if they need a constant power feed to retain their memory settings.
8) The starter appears to be bad and is pulling too many amps from the battery. The problem seems to aggravate when the car is hot. A new starter and a starter heat blanket are in order...
That's all I can think of for now but we haven't done a full post track day inspection yet (the car is still on the trailer!).
Here's some data from the track day. We put a DL-1 data logger in the M2000 for the afternoon on Sunday and came up with some interesting information.
Alex and Rene were driving the M2000, I was in my Miata
Fastest Laps
Alex = 1:45.59
Rene = 1:47.44
Josh = 1:51.80
Maximum Speed
Alex = 109.79 mph
Rene = 110.06 mph
Josh = 100.64
Maximum Lateral Acceleration
Alex = 1.34 g
Rene = 1.44 g
Josh = 1.29 g
And here is a comparison of our fastest laps in graphical form. It's easy to see where the M2000 just walks away from my Miata in each of the straights. The top graph is speed and the bottom graph is lateral acceleration. It doesn't look so good in the thread - click on the image to bring up the S2Ki viewer, and then click on the image in the viewer to show a larger format.
