Being that this is obviously a widespread problem for for MY04, I suggest that we document our names/VINs and contact Honda. We should press for an explanation of the issue to ensure that the fix isn't a band-aid. I don't want to be driving a rust bucket 10 years from now. We do not know what is going on in places we cannot see.
So who's gathering all this data?

I spent a lot of time examining my trunk area for rust last night.

The only spot that is an issue is at those bump stops. I can't see any rust anywhere else in the lid, or the surrounding areas (around the seals for example).

I really think its simply that they may have painted them first, and then some of the paint has come off from screwing the bump stops in.

I don't think we have to make too big of a deal out of it... we just all need to get this area cleaned up and it should be fine.

I haven't had the chance to really inspect the area yet - I just saw the rust and took a couple pics, but I hope thats the case. I'm mainly curious how common a problem it is, but I'll take a good look this weekend when I have time.

Checked my trunk last night and didn't find any rust - but I'll monitor that area from now on...

i actually thought about this earlier today when I thought maybe it's an 04/05 thing. Didn't production of the s2k change to a different plant and maybe quality suffered after the change? Something to ponder and maybe people with the rust problems can post their production number and we can draw a conclusion

I looked and my passenger side has one little bubble just getting started. Thanks all for the heads up so I can stop it.

Even though you drive through this winter, our S should not be so easy to rust. It is definitely a defect.

BTW, I am going to check mine today.

I have my fingers crossed.

Sebring sliver. Yup, I have the same kind of rust problem too. I took it to Boch Honda in Norwood, MA. The service mgr took pictures and will send to Honda to see how they can fix it.

They have to fix it. It is not the matter of whether they will fix it or not. We have 5yrs unlimited miles corrosion warranty here in the states.

The mgr tried to down played it, saying "oh yeah this spot is very susceptible to rust, I bet some high prices car like porshe and bmw has the same problem, too....."

Arghhhhhhh!!!!
