new member with a big problem
SJSHARKS you are killing me here. My sides are hurting terribly. I especially liked the medication comment.
Red Blur are you serious? Why should you have to check it every 300 miles? You shouldn't. If you drive like the greater percentage of us here you should be doing it every 200 miles. That should be when you are filling up at the gas station. Why you ask? Only because the manual says so. This is the only car I have owned where the manual clearly states to check the oil at EVERY fill-up. There are good reasons for this. I honestly think it's ridiculous to NOT say the oil starvation was his fault. It was his car correct? Why wouldn't you bother checking something as important as oil level when purchasing a used car?
I'm not taking any sides here...but I can tell you not checking your oil every 300 miles in NOT abuse. Why should I have to check it every 300 miles? I get the oil changed every 3000 miles, maybe 2500 if I've been driving it hard....but never check it every 300. If you want to...that's fine...but don't pin this on him for not doing so. That's ridiculous to say the oil starvation was his fault for not checking it so often. If his S2000 ate up oil a lot faster than that, then that's Honda's problem. I love my S2000, but I can't argue with him about their service....overall...it's just plain bad.
This oil starvation stuff is crap! Honda should have made the low oil light trip earlier if in fact the engine could be damaged while 2 quarts low. It seems to me Honda should have emptied oil .5 quart at a time while running on a track at high rpm's with tight turns. Keep doing this until you have a motor failure and then set the light to .75 above the failure level. Problem fixed! I think it is rediculous to check the oil every 300 miles on a brand new car, although because of this forum I do. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't honda change the oil check interval via a service bulletin in 2001 or 2002? Even further I believe that this was something that the dealer is supposed to give you? Again, no flames but I could be wrong on this. There is no excuse for Honda to blame somebody for oil starvation if the light was never tripped. That is my opinion, no flames please.
