You can always hire a mechanic to do a prepurchase inspection / compression test for you.

Is there anything fishy with an 07 GPW S2K with black seats and door trim but red carpeting? I thought the GPW with red and black trim came with red & black panels and car seats too.

Was this car in El Monte, if so, the seller isn't being honest about several details of the car. The car has also been in an accident and is missing VIN stickers on all panels in the front.

Yeah, I think it was. Didn't waste much time looking into it, other members on the forum already gave it the thumbs down.

Hey guys, how do two parties handle a transaction if it's not through eBay? I'm thinking about purchasing an S on the other side of the country. Flights actually cost more at this point than just having the car shipped out. My plan is to get an independent mechanic to conduct a prepurchase inspection and compression test and if all goes well, have the car shipped out to me.

I'm just not sure how this transaction would work. An escrow service? A wire transfer at the moment the car gets loaded on the truck?

I bought my on ebay. First make sure it's a reputable seller. Good communication is the key. If he/she is good at emailing/calling you back with all the questions you have that's a good sign.

I had asked the local S2ki community in the area to see if anyone would be willing to check out the car for me. I have to say Mike (8BALL) was instrumental in guiding me through the process. I asked the seller if he would be open to having the car inspected, he said yes. Everything worked out. I bought mine by putting the security deposit down and said rest will be given after everything has been verified. I bought a one way ticket, paid the balance and drove the S 1400 miles back home. It was well worth the time and money. Good luck.

I'm trying to sell my '03 gpw/tan with 33k miles on it and either getting a cheaper s to mod the hell out of, or getting into an Evo. I have a potential buyer for $15,500, but my father thinks I will be able to get more if I wait until spring when the demand is higher. Being that kbb for my car is $15,000, do you find it feasible for me to get $16-16,500 if I wait until spring? If I find an older man who would like a clean s and is not focused on finding the best bargain, I think I might have a chance. However, that money may be lost when the prices of other s2ks that I might be interested in go up as well. I'd appreciate any input.

edit: my sale thread is here:

What do you all think about this listing? Does the price sound fair, or should it be lower due to the mods?

Thanks!

Common everything hard ball the negotiation or move in. Just IMO this Guy is soft, look how the ad is written. Old lady blah blah blah 43k ago. This punk needs to grow a set.
Sorry, but I'm not understanding you. So you think for the mileage the price is common and reasonable but that I could probably talk him down? I wasn't planning on paying the $18k he's asking for anyways, but do you think I could get him down to maybe $16.5, or would that be too low?
