Definitely too much. I'm about to buy an '06 LBP with 69k miles for $16k.

I know where there's an '03 GPW/tan for about $14k.

I have seen used 00-02 from like $9000-$14000. Plus these have been out for over 10 years. Just look around.

My coworker is willing to sell me his clean 2002 suzuka (blue/blue) with 35k miles for 13,750....thoughts? I really want him to get down to 13k but am considering this price, but that's beginning to creep up in used boxster s territory (though I still fully recognize the mileage/reliability persuasion of the S).

This seems like a good deal ... as mentioned above, you'll see prices in the vicinity of 8-14k, depending on mileage, condition, color combination, etc. It sounds like your coworker's car is a clean, low-miles example worth the $13,750. If you offer him $13,250-$13,500 cash he may consider the slight discount ... this works 99% of the time

Also, those in the market for an S2000 know exactly what the car has to offer - I'm going on my 4th S2000 and have owned some great vehicles in between including my most recent, a BMW 1M. I personally prefer the integrity and feel of the S2000 over a Boxster S any day; now a Carrera S is a different story.

Good luck!

^ Ha, thanks! It's a good deal but I'm just getting a little cold feet as I've never actually owned a 4cyl (v6 jeep, v6 jetta, v6 audi) before so it doesnt feel as 'natural'. Also, Im in Cincinnati so I'd be driving it 90% of the time, which makes it a tad less practical than a coupe.

He originally asked for $15 and I countered to $13, to which he said 'firm' on 13750. So, we'll see. We rarely work together (different building, just happened to come up in conversation) so I dont feel bad about playing hardball.

The 1M looks great - one of those cars like the s2000 that lets you know that the owner has a good enthusiast feel for driving rather than buying the car that people see as desirable from the outside. Thanks again!

Understandable - like you, I've owned an array of 6 cyl powered cars, both force inducted and naturally aspirated, as well as very few 4 cyl powered cars, and I can assure you that this is no ordinary 4-banger. By the way, it may seem impractical but once you sit in it and start driving, it will remind you of why you purchased the car and how much fun it is to drive it. Mine will be a full time daily driver like the other 3 S2000's were...I'm counting the minutes until it gets here, it's currently being transported!

Yes the 1M is a straight up enthusiast machine, just like the s2000 is.

Hey Guys, I'm new here. I've got my eye on a 2006+ S2000. I found a 2006 with 148,000km (~92,000mi) for $17.5k Canadian. Keep in mind that prices in Canada are higher, but even looking at Clearbook, the valuation on that car is around $16,400 US, so I'm thinking its not far off.

So my question isn't so much as to whether it is a good deal, but rather if 92,000mi for an AP2 is "high". The owner says that he is the original "mature" owner, no mods, all highway miles from when the car was younger. Selling because he isn't using it much anymore. Apparently always stored for the winter, and garage kept.

I'm doing a lot of research and while I would normally steer clear of most cars with that mileage, I know Honda's can run a good distance. I likely will only be driving no more than 8k miles annually, as it will be our third car.

Any input appreciated.

Pricing aside, you shouldn't be too concerned about mileage if the car is truly a 1-owner car and properly maintained. Typically Honda engines are known for their long term reliability, and those are the regular ones...imagine what a more specialized engine such as the one on the s2000 could offer.

If you look around, there is a 100k+ owners thread and even a 200k+ thread and people are reporting that their cars continue to run perfectly fine. Honda over-engineered the s2000 engine and one of the side effects is long term reliability.
