I'm sure you offering cash instead of peanuts will persuade the seller. If the car is not in your price range, then like someone said, move on. Why do people feel the need to knock what people are selling things for? The market will determine what is a fair price. Someone will either pay what the seller wants, or they won't sell until the price changes. Welcome to Life 101.

Definitely was going to run a Carfax before making the drive.

Meh Carfax and Autocheck are so incomplete. Certainly run them, but they're not the end all be all. Maybe you can do FaceTime or Skype with the seller? I've done this before. They can walk you around the car and you can check major things before making a wasted drive.

YOU think it's unreasonable but that doesn't mean the seller has to come down in price and sell the car to you. I don't think the seller cares what you think. Any seller can ask anything they want. It will sell if there's a buyer out there willing to pay that price. If the seller is desperate, needs the money then he'll lower the price if there are no bites. That's how it works. But just because you want a car for sale that you can't afford doesn't mean you can say the price is unreasonable. It's unreasonable to YOU!

There are CR's out there selling for $50-60k! It might be unreasonable but do you think the sellers will give a crap about that? They know what they have and they are only willing to sell at the price their happy at.

I just find it funny that you come here to cry just because the car you want isn't priced according to what you want. Even after posting and bashing in the for sale thread. LOL. It's not going to change his price.

GPW always commands a higher price over other colors due to its rare color and simply being more desirable than others. I know if I get into another s2000, GPW is the color I want and will have to expect to pay a few thousand more just because.

If you don't like the price of his car, just move on man. Complaining here won't make him budge his price unless he needs to move it to which he said he's not in a rush at all.

Give it up.

Not a bad idea at all. I will definitely be doing my due diligence before making that drive.

cgarrett23, I agree with your comments regarding the market here in the PNW. I would have been willing to make the trip from Portland to Seattle for the right car. (I ended up traveling to Bend instead.) I didn't even think about the FaceTime/Skype idea but I like the suggestion as not only would it give you a chance to check out the car but would also allow you to get a feel for the seller's character before heading north. Good luck!

Have a curiosity from the group, how much does a "damaged" carfax affect value. Last weekend I had a truck tire thrown up at me on the NJ turnpike, ripped off my lip, scruffed up my front bumper and worst of all put a nice big dent in the passenger door and removed a good bit of paint. Very likely itll end up on carfax however the body shop says they're able to save the original panels, with VINs intact. Cars an 07 GPW with 108k on it. Clean carfax before this and will retain original VINs and panels.

Thanks! There is absolutely nothing in the Portland/Vancouver area. Funny you mention Bend because we are headed there in the next couple of weeks (Sunriver) and I have been scouring that area pretty hard as well just in case!

If your planning on keeping the car, probably not much to you. Hopefully the repairs will return the car back to a proper condition, if you plan on selling it some day take plenty of before/after pics of the repair as well as a copy of the work done. That will help answer any questions the future owner may have and shows your not hidding anything. It shouldn't hurt the future value much, it's not like it only has something like 5k miles.
