Here is a good tool for looking up values, you can baseline what the car is worth less the mods with it. => Black Book Weekly Values Lite

Not bad. I would not lose any sleep buying the car for that price.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find the car? What source did you use?

I'm certainly not haha, this is my third S and I don't think I've ever gotten a "deal" but this was one of the better ones.

It was listed on Miami CL that a friend sent me, but it was also listed here. Just did some digging and found the better price between the listings and went from there.

2001 SSM w/ Black interior
Stock
140k miles
Checked it out at a dealership a few days ago and some of the information that stuck with me was that one of the workers actually was driving around in it and he cracked the bumper, but they repaired it.
Everything looks good, but I have to do a more thorough search and ask a few more questions today.
all vins and clean carfax
their asking 9800.

Hope it's OK to ask about the car I have for sale:

2006 Laguna Blue Pearl S2K. 49,000 miles on it in Raleigh, NC. Two things are not stock: wheels (TSW Nurburgring - Gunmetal with mirror cut face) and springs (Eibach) - changed by previous owner. A few facts:

- front tires, new
- rear tires, needed
- paint - lots of little rock chips
- top - has 4 small tears that have been repaired, probably need to be repaired better
- no accidents, only has one small ding and it's in the shop today having that removed by a reputable paintless dent removal place. As far as I know all VIN's match
- front lip is scratched up (very bottom of car not the bumper the lower lip - curb)

Based on what I was seeing on Autotrader, I asked $20,500. I have a prospective buyer who wants to work off of KBB and TMV so he's offering much less (around $15,500). So I've consistently seen a gap between what KBB and TMV list and asking prices. When I did an autotrader search the average asking price for 2006's was around $23k. Just saw a link on here for black book and it lists a car in average shape at $18,200 and clean as $20,600

Is my asking price out of line? I never expect to get full asking price for a car but I was a bit surprised to be offered 75% and haven't responded yet. Just as I don't expect to get full asking price, I'm guessing he doesn't expect for me to accept an offer off by $5k. I just started trying to sell and based off his initial offer I have my doubts that we can find a middle ground that'll make me happy. If I'm being unreasonable in my expectations, however, I'd love to know so I don't waste my time and his (he's out of town).

That buyer is trying to get a deal...I don't think it's out of line unless you're really desperate to sell fast. You have a desirable color with some common issues. If buyer is offering $15K and your ask is $20.5K then target a sale price of $17.5-19K. I'm guessing the buyer will meet you close to there and at that point you have to consider whether a couple hundred one way or the other is worth not selling the car. I'm not sure I'd take $15.5k for my '06 w/93K Silverstone that needs new seats.

Thanks for the response and you are very close with your prediction of the target sale price and if he were to get within a few hundred of that I'd seriously consider it. I'm only selling it because I need a backseat. It's not my daily driver and there are just too many days I can't drive it. So I'm not desperate. I was reminded of a quote I heard once: "If the seller doesn't find your first offer insulting, you've offered too much". I responded back to him and simply stated that since I just started to try and sell the car I wasn't willing to take 25% off my asking price which I set $2500 less than the average asking price I was finding on autotrader when looking for comps. I know that KBB and Edmunds are generally more acceptable than taking averages off autotrader but from what I'm reading around s2ki it seems as though KBB hasn't really compensated for the upward trend in s2k prices. I'm not looking for a sucker and nobody expects to get full asking price but after trading lots of texts and sending lots of pics and being very open about the car I was disappointed in the offer (perhaps he's looking for a sucker).
