Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
Looking for some insight. I am driving to Jersey tomorrow to see a CR with ~80,000 miles. Carfax shows no accidents, 3 owners with a decent history of maintenance records. The guy confirms all VINS are intact, yet is not sure about front bumper. He is checking tonight and taking a picture for me before i make the trip. He recalls there might be overspray or it might of gotten repainted. Otherwise car is completely stock and in above average condition. What price do you feel is fair?????
Big sur, be cautious. That car could be great. But, the listing indicates there is an accident reported so figure out what that is all about and factor it into your analysis once you know what happened. Also, it is not common to find a car listed that low by a dealer. There might be a reason. Look the car over carefully. Again, it could be good. Just do your homework.
Personal taste here, but the soft top delete of the CR is actually a turn off for me. I'm beginning my slow search for a Honda S2000 and I'm actually ignoring the CR's, because I want a soft top convertible.
BUT!!!!
All that goes out the window if it's in the Apex Blue color.

I assume you are buying a "driver" not an investment. The price sounds too good to be true. Look it over very closely. Find out if it has ever thrown codes. Front bumper is no big deal to me even if replaced and lacking vin as long as no other damage. But, it would probably result in knocking off a small bit on the price.
Does the engine sound strong? Idle steady both cold and warm. Run up and down the revs without any hesitation? Any hint of valve burning?
Does it have mods? Did it have mods in past that have been removed? Was it tracked? Tracked a little or a lot?

Look for signs of previous forced induction. In the front bumper grille cavity where the radiator receives air, there is a shroud that is often cut on both sides for an intercooler addition.
Also look at rear fenders if they have been rolled. That affects the value of the car. A majority would disagree with me and are very vocal that it doesn't hurt the value and appeal, but it simply does.
Lastly, confirm that all VINs are matching to the chassis. It's not uncommon for body parts being swapped on and painted around the VIN. Most people don't check the actual numbers, just the fact that it has the sticker.
