Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
CRXB, given the top condition, needing tires, body mods and 60k mileage $22.5K is high. If VIN #s match and maintenance is documented then $18K+/- ish would be more reasonable. How long has the car been for sale?
Front lip is factory rubber seal w a very factory looking front lip
Not a crazy lip
Tail spoiler is the small factory trunk "lip"
Again not crazy mod looking
Spoilers look factory
Interior very clean no real wear no tears
I'd replace all 4 tires
Really just needs rear tires as near wear bars
Honda mechanic who owns an S2000
Said no real issues other than rear tires
And top flaws
Everything else I have seen interior is ratty
And much higher miles
I like 2007 has VSA
I know the 2007 is priced more like retail
and then more like retail no issues w/ top or tires
so over priced
thanks for the honest assessment on the 2007
I asked and you answered
NEXT:
Alright so how about a Silver 2005
1 owner
car fax shows oil change about every 3k
53k miles
dealer wants $21990
have not seen in person yet
photos looks clean straight not perfect
interior normal wear not torn driver's seat bolster
no extra spoilers or lips
just a plain silver 2005 S2000
maybe once I see in person the top will be in better shape than the 2007
what do you folks think ?
if I test drive, have my mechanic look over
if for once a car is as advertised -
offer $15,000 to $17,975 per NADA (clean retail) ?
thanks in advance

CRXB,
I wouldn't bail on the '07 just yet. It has a couple of issues, but not deal breakers. Just because the asking price is high does not mean you cannot negotiate a better deal that you are more comfortable with.
The '05 also sounds interesting. If it checks out and is a clean S2K it is unlikely the dealer will drop to $15k. However, you could throw that number at him and then meet in the middle somewhere around $18K. VSA began with the '06 MY, so that is a consideration.
Typically, S2K folks use a $1,000 adjustment for each model year difference. I also think I've seen people use a $500 adjustment for each 10,000 miles.
Given what you have shared so far, the '07, at lets say $20K all in including repairs [new top, tires, etc.] would be a comparable deal to the '05 at $18k [assuming no repairs needed].
One car may also feel like "the one" more than the other...
Just my .02. Hope it gives you some perspective.

Sounds nice. Did the VIN #s, maintenance records, carfax, etc. check out? What kind of warranty is the dealer providing? Does the car have the owner's manual or other original paperwork?

Driving the 2005 its a cherry definitely one owner well cared for even car cover in trunk all I see wrong is battery's 5 years old 1 small roof tear v this is that 1 thanks again
I ran over to this dealer (not honda) - they sell mostly big expensive toys
looked it over ( was stored indoors)
asked if could drive
The guy just threw me the keys and said sure drive it
(excuse the typos from prev post as was from small screen on a phone)
Of the 3 I have looked at this is by far the best
silver much easier to keep clean than black
no touch up paint marks
no dents
matching vin #s on all the panels
- only flaw in paint is the front way down low - when u pull too close to the curb /stops (like at a store parking lot) when u park - don't even see unless crawl under - but the dealer did show it clearly in their photos
and then nothing bent
This car is was obviously cared for by the owner
has owners manual
carfax has 1 owner w/ o/f changes every 3-4 k mi
even lists the major services
(all at a honda dealer)
I drove with the top down
came back and the guy was closing a deal with someone else
I said I forgot to drive w/ the top up - and since your busy - mind if I drove it again?
he's fine with it
- so I drive it on the highway w/ the top up - seems fine (none of the giant air leaks like the 1st car I drove)
I bring it back and they are closing - the guy who knows about the car wasn't there but will be later
so I will get back there and ask your questions
warranty I doubt it - I haven't seen any offered on any of the cars I have driven so far (its not Carmax)
in the trunk even has the boot cover - 1st one I have seen in person
and in the space under the trunk floor- w/ the jack and tools - I lift the cover up and underneath -
I find a a factory service manual.
I want to thank all those who replied for being the voice of reason
this board is an invaluable resource for S2000 owners / and potential owners
The test drive by myself - that showed me why everyone here loves these cars like they do
I could not help but have a grin on my face
I think it is even more fun than an Alfa Romeo spider that my father on rare occasions would let me drive
CRXB, sounds like a very well cared for one owner S2K. After you have looked at/driven a few cars you know which ones to walk away from and which ones to get serious about. Hopefully, you and the dealer can get together on price. This sounds like a keeper if you can get it at a reasonable price. Good luck!
