I could really use some help figuring out how much this car is worth, here are the details:
-Black
-100,000 miles
-Clean title
-2 accidents reported on carfax
---No structural damage reported
-Whole car has been repainted
---Paint is in bad shape, rock chips, scratches, bird shit left to dry so it ate up the paint, plus the paint job was crap so the clear coat is fading also
---Going to need to be repainted
-Gash in driver seat, not torn all the way through
-Previous owner put something on the dashboard so now there's old adhesive stuck on the middle of the dashboard, tried using goo gone but its not coming off
-Mechanics all seem fine, had some friends that work at Honda check it out, no leaks, may just need a valve adjustment, that's about it

Location is Central, Texas and the KBB has it valued at:
Fair - 10.7k
Good - 11.9k
Very Good - 13.4k
Excellent - 14.6k

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

The severity of the accidents should play a big role in the value, in my opinion. The cosmetic items can be repaired but will surely be a factor as well. Ultimately, you would need to feel comfortable with the purchase price and be excited to restore the car back to it's true glory.

Agree with Hfreak, the accidents are the key here. Sounds like the car was abused, which brings into question whether it was also properly maintained. The fair price of $10,700 even sounds high based on your description. I wouldn't want to spend nearly $11k and then have to have the car painted. There are better cars out there in that price range. Keep looking unless the price is well under $10K. Good luck with your search.

Offer $8-$9K, sound like the previous owners didn't give a crap about the car, what a pitty...

agreed. without seeing photos or knowing more about the accidents, it is a car in POOR condition.
$8000.

Um, what year is the car? That is gonna have a big effect on price too. <edit>oh, its in the thread title, 2005. So I agree with making over well below KBB Fair price.

Figure how much to repaint, fix seat (price new seat cover from Honda. Make sure you're sitting down when you see the price). Figure out cost of other repairs you wpuld need to male to be happy with car. Make sure you checkout condition of top. Figure some $ above all that for unknowns. Then subtract all that from kbb fair price. Make offer.

does everybody do that? just add up the costs of repairs and subtract it from the kbb fair price? or is that a good starting point for negotiations?

Looking at this one right now, but i'm fairly new into s2000 so was hoping everyone can give me a price check on this one. KBB saids its way lower compared to the listed price. What would be a reasonable offer for the car in this condition?

I am most likely going to drive to these private seller and try to negotiate with them. Since I am driving the car back home are there anything I should notice?

First off, I think I remember that Suzuka at the dealer when I was looking back in October. Modded cars also are more caveat emptor.

So, early AP1s: here's the common problems thread - https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/681...ons-1999-2009/

Check the oil, make sure there's enough first off. They tend to consume oil, so if it's low the seller may not have been careful.

Check the condition of the back windshield if it's still plastic. Check if she shifts smoothly into 2nd.

The cars here look pretty nice, although I didn't go over with a fine tooth comb.
