Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
Hope it's OK to ask about the car I have for sale:
2006 Laguna Blue Pearl S2K. 49,000 miles on it in Raleigh, NC. Two things are not stock: wheels (TSW Nurburgring - Gunmetal with mirror cut face) and springs (Eibach) - changed by previous owner. A few facts:
- front tires, new
- rear tires, needed
- paint - lots of little rock chips
- top - has 4 small tears that have been repaired, probably need to be repaired better
- no accidents, only has one small ding and it's in the shop today having that removed by a reputable paintless dent removal place. As far as I know all VIN's match
- front lip is scratched up (very bottom of car not the bumper the lower lip - curb)
Based on what I was seeing on Autotrader, I asked $20,500. I have a prospective buyer who wants to work off of KBB and TMV so he's offering much less (around $15,500). So I've consistently seen a gap between what KBB and TMV list and asking prices. When I did an autotrader search the average asking price for 2006's was around $23k. Just saw a link on here for black book and it lists a car in average shape at $18,200 and clean as $20,600
Is my asking price out of line? I never expect to get full asking price for a car but I was a bit surprised to be offered 75% and haven't responded yet. Just as I don't expect to get full asking price, I'm guessing he doesn't expect for me to accept an offer off by $5k. I just started trying to sell and based off his initial offer I have my doubts that we can find a middle ground that'll make me happy. If I'm being unreasonable in my expectations, however, I'd love to know so I don't waste my time and his (he's out of town).

I started last week by just posting on some free things like Craigslist, a mailing list at work, Nextdoor neighborhood app. Next week, I'll do more including some paid spots like here and autotrader. That's one of the reasons I wanted to sanity check myself so I don't post something unreasonable to a wider, and in the case of this site more knowledgeable, audience. I replied back to the guy and told him I wasn't willing to take 25% off my asking price the first week I've posted it for sale. It'll be interesting to see what kind of a response I get today.

Just for reference, i looked up your car on the MMR report (dealer auction). The closest one i can find, A car with higher miles 58,603 to be exact, sold in November for 17,300. That's what a delaer paid, in November. I don't see you having any problem getting 20,500 for your car if it's in good shape. Now, needing a top is going to ding your price by maybe another 1000-1500, and rock chips could hurt a little too. But i think you are asking a reasonable price and personally i wouldn't budge much.
You're right on the money at 20,500. KBB is way off on our cars

FWIW I have a receipt from PO of my car for $1500 + tax to do a top replacement and I recently had my bumper fixed and resprayed for $250, although I removed the bumper and dropped it off at the shop so that may have saved me some money not sure. Anyway, couple of data points for you.
Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. The top has 4 small tears (3 in the normal locations) which have been patched (at least 1 of which I need to rework). The worst of the tears was there when I bought the car 5 years ago. I was sure I was going to replace the top...I never did but I understand it's a bargaining chip and I wouldn't be surprised if a new owner did go ahead and install a new top. Frankly, that would look fantastic!!

Found a 2004 about 7 hours from me but I'm willing to make the drive if the car checks out. Clean title with 89k on the clock. Carfax says 1 owner. It was involved in a rear end in 2009 and they never repainted the rear bumper. Wheels are curbed too and the interior isn't in the very best condition. Seats aren't ripped but worn. The top looks decent though. Their list price is $13,500. Would a car like this be worth it? It's an attractive price for an ap2 but I know those things would bother me so I would fix them asap. You guys think I have any room to possibly go down?
