Two completely different ways to go fast. If I had the $ I'd own both, along with a shit load of other interesting and cool cars.

I own an Evo X and an MY00. They are both totally different. They handle different. Their power bands are different. They feel like night and day polar opposites behind the wheel.

The Evo has a ton of torque and is literally glued to the ground at all times thanks to the dynamic computer system. You can get the same handling with the s2000, you just need to be the computer. The s2000 lacks the torque but makes up a lot with the smaller size and the fun driving it. They both turn heads.

I'm not a huge fan of the EVO X. I think the EVO IX was the better looking car. I've had several experiences behind the wheel of my bro's MR and it's a ton of fun to drive. However, I prefer RWD over AWD. I think it's more fun and rewarding to drive a RWD car fast. Add the top down experience, there is no comparison for me.

The MR is on Autotrader by the way.

Maybe I can help since I'm not a biased S2000 owner (yet). Also, if you're looking at the 350Z roadster, the S2000 is the better choice hands down. Go with the coupe if you want one.

Yesterday I had extended test drives in both a 350z and a S2000. Over the years I've probably driven 10 s2000's and 4 350Z's and I always forget how much better the S2000 is until I actually drive the Z. The Z feels heavy and cumbersome to drive. Every shift of the transmission feels like I'm rowing a boat as opposed to the flick of the wrist shifts I have in a S2000. The Z does have a wonderful stock exhaust note that lets you know you're going fast, but in reality, it doesn't feel that much faster than the s2000, must be the weight. I love the way 350Z's look and the fast back is hot, but I think the s2000 is better in 8 out of 10 categories. Heck, I think you could probably fit more cargo in the S2000 too since the back hatch of the Z is so shallow.

At the end of the day go with what makes you happier. There are plenty of 350Z owners that love their cars and would never trade them for anything. They are both pretty rock solid cars (new models) and will last 200,000 miles if treated properly.

I was in the market for sporty car 3-4 years ago. Was looking at specifically AP1 s2000, 06+ 350z, 05+ RX-8 GT. Bought the S2000 and never looked back. Test drove the z first, then the 8 and finally the s2000.

Z: god damn the car feels heavy. well it is. I have a CLK that i used to DD now garaged and is being german monster power modded XD. Yea the Z felt heavier, less nimble. Because of the weight, you don't even get that back to seat feeling. oh yea hella hella crappy interior. The interior opening panels were loose like a 90s cadillac and this was a showroom car with 1500kms on the clock!

8: Felt pretty darn nimble. But that lack of torque really really sucked. Because it revs to 9000 i can make this analogy: its like driving an AP1 waiting for that VTEC burst of magic and never really getting there. It made some pretty cool sounds though and the engine was butter smooth. Way smoother than the F22C or F20C

S: well 'nuff said.

Well, for those who remember I was formerly a BMW owner and stepped out because I needed a break but at heart I'll always be an enthusiast. And for those who don't know I was in an accident a few days ago, long story short (not my fault, ER, MRI, everyone ok) and so I am awaiting the other's insurance to come take a look for estimates possibly a total? Idk how to judge it, personally doesn't look like a total but who knows. Anyhow, if It does come down to it and I do get a check for the car I was offered my friends 2001 BMW 740iL (Had one before) and it looks darn good. Pics below. For anyone who's driven one, they'll know how amazing these cars are and hard to get out of. Surprisingly quick, sporty, and best fuel economy I've seen in a V8. Than it comes to the S2K which is just as good if not better (MPGs) so debating whether to stick to the S2K or go back to the Germans lol Im like 60% S2k only cause its a lot more reliable and a lot better on gas vs the Bimmer plus I hear gas prices are yet to keep going higher according to Ben Bernanke, Fed Reserve CEO. So? I'd like responses to be mature, no need for childish posts. Oh, my S2K looks like my sign.

Here is the one I would most likely be getting from a friend.

Might as well ask us if you should buy a s2000 or a Dodge Ram. The two cars couldn't be farther apart from each other. Most people buy the S for the experience, not because of tangible traits like MPG, or cargo room. That BMW simply doesn't offer the S experience, so most people here are going to vote S. You should pick whichever you like more.

(p.s. Bernanke has no influence, or ability to predict the price of gas. The only way he could predict it is if he continues to destroy our dollar, in which, the cost of everything will rise. Saudi Arabia has already said they are going to increase supply, and decrease margins to try and help keep the price of gas at 'reasonable' levels.)

No I know they're two different cars. I wouldn't have to decide between say a Z4 and a S2000 cause its obvious I'd go S2K. See what you say about the S2000 experience they 740 has one of its own. I've been through a LOT of cars and I can easily say there isn't an experience to be with every car. There are cars, than there are cars like the S2000, 740iL and lots of others that offer some kind of experience that is hard to break. Again I think I am still leaning towards the S because its really changed my view. I've owned a car I've never thought I would and love it. I think I need to drive a 740iL again to find out if its something I'm willing to live with again. The experience of the 740iL gets ruined by its reliability factor. Nothing is more disappointing than backing out of the drive way and seeing a fresh spot of oil. Its all good up until you gotta work on it. S2K are good, and when I did work on it, it took me like 10-minutes. I love the simplicity, so I think this thread might be answered. I think I will still keep to an S2000
