Oil change before or after road trip?
Before, it's always good to have clean oil in your motor when you're away from home. The S only uses 4 quarts or so anyways so it's not that expensive to do it 1000 miles early, you're driving a 30K dollar sports car anyways.
As someone else asked, how many miles do you have on your current oil change? How does the oil look, is it dark (like almost black), or is it still got that golden color that relatively new oil has?
I did an oil change (it "was" due anyway!) before a 6k mile trip last July. After the trip, the oil was still clear and had a nice color. It was darker than freshly changed but still looked just fine.
I'd say, if your oil still looks clear on the dipstick, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's really bothering you that much, just get it changed. $25 to $30 is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
