Default rear tray rattle

when I use 5/6 gear and step on the gas the rear tray rattles.

I had this problem for two years.

It never really bothers me.

I take a look back there and the 3 plastic fasteners look like they were forced into the holes from the factory.

I don't think anybody has ever removed the tray.

So, I removed the 3 fasteners (they were a pain to take out because they were REALLY stuffed into the holes)

I try to reinstall and it turns out the 3 holes in back of the tray facing the trunk were 1/4 inch off!

WTH. I don't think the tray shrunk. I think it was just a bad part from a honda supplier, not honda's fault.

So, I drive without the 3 fasteners that face the trunk and..............

all is good, no more rattle.

anybody ever heard of this?????????????

In trying to track down a rattle that occurs between 2.3K and 2.7k rpms, I found the same loose tabs. I just taped them down, but unfortunately they weren't the source of the transient buzzing. I think mine is coming from the cross members in the soft top.

ive got a rattle somewhere around there.

it annoys me in the winter, but not enough to take it in. in the summer, the top is generally down, so i dont hear anything anyways.

thanks for posting--one of these days i'll check that location and see if that's whats rattling around on mine. i had honda change my top though--got that common rip--and i wonder if the tech lost a bolt/etc somewhere and thats my problem...

that tray is actuallyl held down by 7 plastic push clips.. 3 along the back, 4 along the front.

3 in the back are to hold the upper trim piece.

yes, three in the back.

the holes in the tray don't line up with the holes in the upper piece. So, the clips are forced in ============> squeek? and rattle?
