How's this ...

Since Gernby's showed us video proof that we can all tow boats like he has, why don't we all do the same? I mean it works, that means it must be okay. There's definitely no additional stress on the driveline components (as long as you don't dump the clutch), the engine will be fine, and if you don't see cracks or folds near where the tow hitch is attached, then that means it's okay.

???

Guys, take it easy... the above comment was stupid but you have to admit, Gernby had some balls to pull something like that off.

That in itself deserves respect from me. You the man Gernby.

Now can we all just get along?

When I saw mav's picture of the Jetta, I spent 30 minutes trying to find this picture that was emailed to me a while back of an ENORMOUS girl in a string bikini. I wanted to post it as the "load" that MY sources say mav is towing around in his S2000. Oh well, I couldn't find it.
I sincerely hope you don't find that pic dude...

Wait a minute here. I agree with exceltoexcel that just because it can do it doesn't mean you should do it. I would NOT tow this boat long distances OR at high speeds. I'll leave that to the next guy with balls. The ONLY reason why I decided to try it is because the trip is 1 mile on a straight, smooth, 35 MPH road (on which I drive 30).

Although I am absolutely positive towing a boat (or a train) can't possibly exceed the design limits of the drivetrain without somehow increasing power, that doesn't mean that it won't accellerate wear (just like autocrossing or tracking). It does take more power to accellerate at a given rate and maintain a given speed while towing (just like it takes more power to accellerate quicker or drive faster). I figure towing a boat 60 miles at 60 MPH could probably put about as much wear on the drivetrain as driving 120 miles at 120 MPH. You would cook your fluids just like you do on the track.

The way I see it, if an S2000 can pull a 3000 lbs boat up a boat ramp without much effort and no damage, then it can definitely pull a 1000 lbs trailer with a jet ski, small sail boat, motorcycle, or tires without any issues at all. Basically, this car can do a lot more than people give it credit.

[QUOTE=gernby,Sep 14 2004, 06:22 PM] Are you one of those guys that uses genuine Honda fluids (like the say), doesn't exceed the speed limit (like they say), and has an entirely stock engine, suspension, exhaust, and drivetrain (like they require)?

This thread is a perfect example of why I will never buy a used car.

I didn't see your previous post, seems we actually do agree, beyond the razzing. Good luck to you.

I know you asked me to meet up with you so you can kick my ass for having a big mouth but when your fat ass showed up in a neon green string bikini and asked me to tow you, I don't know about that... Dude keep your homosexual transgender confusion shit to yourself next time.

I'm certainly no longer worried about putting a bike rack and two bikes on my hitch
