S2K Days East Coast???
JG, I am impressed with your reply and thanks for the complement, we all like to THINK that we are organized.
While in Asheville we all wondered why Knoxville wasn't home base for S2K Days. We really didn't like the distance between Asheville and the Dragon.
It would be very short notice to get a large group together this fall but I already would like to go to a semi-large meet on this side of the country. Hell, we all had such a good time in April that I wanted to have another S2K Days the following weekend.
Since it's only July, we may still have half a chance to organize a little something for mid October. Just don't know how bad of a tourist season Knoxville gets. I wonder if that same dealership that held the S2K Days Open House would be willing to do a little more sponsorship. I didn't make it up there, possibly Mack can check on that?
We really don't need much if you think about it. A designated hotel that everyone could register at, maybe a dealership to host the event, and a few places to drive.
S2KCA did a wonderful job with organization in Asheville. Having the Ballroom the entire weekend, the dinners, the hospitality suite, and the vendor expo was very nice. As Greg Stevens would say, "It made me do this ---->
." I wouldn't even want to try to organize something to that extent.
What are everyone else's thoughts? C'mon speak up!

I'm a South-east kind of guy, so something on this side of the planet in October sounds great. Knoxville is fine too. Even though I'll be out of town the first week of September, Labor Day in Knoxville is pretty good. They have "Booms Day" down on the river front, with one of the best fireworks displays in the Southeast.
S2K Dude,
Thanks for the compliment. I meant every word.
S2K Days was an offshoot of a small group we had here a year earlier. Your own Speed 2000 was one of our participants. He'll fill you in on the details.
S2K Days got started from humble beginnings. I know it wasn't because of me. Sometimes I think it was in spite of me.
To make a long story short, Knoxville wasn't considered to be the host city because back then, The Dragon wasn't "the legend" it is now. And when S2K Days was first envisioned, we had no organized group in Knoxville to lean on. Now we do. It's that simple. You all made The Dragon the star of the show in April. I'm enthusiastic about basing Dragon-centric events out of Knoxville from here on. Trust me.
Please refer to this thread about the next meet.

In mid-October, the Dragon is not going to be some ghost road. Rooms from Asheville west to Tennessee are booked solid that time of year from August or earlier. Leaf looking is a big industry, and traditionally the second weekend in October is the peak weekend here.
I think a mid-year meet is a great place to plan the next one. But my cardinal rule is: these things don't plan themselves. Find a local owner willing to do the legwork. Someday, my wedding plans will seem like child's play to the hoops I've jumped through in the past year.
Monterey is being planned with more than a year's advance notice. I expect East-Coasters driving there. I'll fly in, if they'll have me. I'm hoping to see some of our new Japanese friends there as well.
Let's keep the discussion going. I'm getting more enthusiastic as we go.

I wouldn't discount Monterey as a left-coast-only event. Those of us in Texas who were in Asheville (and drove wayyyyyy too many miles to get there) wouldn't miss Monterey regardless of the distance (1800 miles one way for us), and I know I echo the sentiments of a lot of east coasters who will ship cars/fly or drive to be there!
There will be a shipping sponsor in place to offer *very* discounted shipping for full transports, and airfare with more than 3 weeks notice is dirt cheap. Start thinking about it seriously now! If you thought S2KDays 01 was a blast, 02 is going to blow your mind!
P.S. S2KDays, much as the NSXCA's NSXPO, is generally considered an S2KCA-sponsored event, so it might be good to call other gatherings by another name to prevent confusion? Just a thought....

Sonda, thanks for your input. We can come up with another name, that's not a problem.
I think we need to:
1) Decide on a firm date and location.
2) We have over 30 people in the pole that say they'd participate so I'd count on 50 or so to show up.
3) Designate some people as organizers, preferably 1 or 2 people from different areas on the East coast (Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast)
4) Get some planning advice from Sondra and Gregg.
