At the minimum the organizers of these events need to have releases/waivers signed by participants and passengers. Insurance is nice too, but quite often inspires lawsuits because there is money available for judgments.

But if it was merely a desire of the driver to conceal evidence (if in fact the report that was filed was a falsehood), then there is a much bigger problem with those who conspire to hide information. It is one thing to respect the privacy of the driver, it is a completely different matter to help the driver to defraud the insurance company or the police. All of a sudden, respecting privacy turns into a criminal act -- on all of our parts -- for helping him/her to cimmit a crime.
Tanqueray, I think you did the driver a dis-service by making those points public. But are those your own opinions/hearsay or do you know for a fact that was what the driver did? For those of you who have been vocal in asking people not to show the pictures or video, are you helping the driver to hide something? It may be better to let a bad driver learn his/her lesson (and get him/her off the road) than to protect a dangerous driver, just because they managed to escape this time does not mean innocent people will not get hurt or killed the next time. We have all seen our share of car accidents (in ANY car) that it is not worth protecting bad/dangerous drivers out there, no matter how nice a person that is.
As the saying goes: Friends don't let friends drive dangerously.
I suggest everyone who is going to host group drives contact S2KCA if you are a member. Supposedly they have insurance available for people who host events. At least they've been touting their insurance to all who will listen.
I have just seen this video, and it really made me think. After this, I'm not going to push my car so hard in turns (yes, i know its fun, but look at this video). I think the s2ki.com members can learn from this mistake...
