Why is it that on here we flame civics and neons for having crazy body kits and huge wings but when the same thing is done to an s2000 it is applauded?
Seems like a vague generalization. Rice is rice to me.

I think that a car is rice when the parts that are put on the car do not flow together or just look out of place. However, I think the definition of rice all depends on who you ask. I know down here in the south, the rednecks will call any car that is made in japan "rice".

Demographics. The spectrum of Civics far exceeds the S.

The S is a rear wheel drive roadster, therefore making it a better foundation for legitimate modding. Majority of the aero mods are proven.

The Civic is front wheel drive econobox. Any "high performance" parts added on are assumed to be considered rice. The quality of parts available for a Civic varies drastically. From straight POS to quality parts.

The reasons are obvious.

A widebody kit with fully functional roll bar and racing seats in an S that is used soley for DD is the owners option. The fact is that if he chooses to track his car, it's a legitimate build.

Although an S is not at the top of the performance food chain.... the Civic (and all the many years it's been out) is definately towards the bottom.
There are Civics that can outrun a S2000 on a autocross track. I owned a 700whp Civic that was all business. No rice. I'm sorry but that is a lame excuse. The OP is totally right. When i bought my S2000 i couldnt believe all the ricers that owned them too. Most of these functional cars you are talking about will never see a second of time on the track. If you like rice it's ok to admit it. dont deny it

Rice is rice. I'll throw my vote in with the people who believe most of these kits are purchased for show by people who have no clue and couldn't care less about aerodynamics or performance.

Think of rice as fashion accessories for punks. Outrageous colors and styling with no other apparent purpose. I think it's an expression of their latent feminine tendencies. If you can't get on the catwalk, at least your car can be a star.

And oh yeah, it's rice on an S2000 too.

The club racer was a factory setup that was designed by professionals to produce results on a track. Unfortunately, it's hard for the casual bystander to know the difference between a ridiculous looking but functional car and a simply ridiculous looking car. Japanese cars with plastic are lumped together as "Rice" by the general public.

muh I like modified cars. I think most modded S's are nice and clean but I think less then 1/2 of the moded civics I see are nice. Maybe I am a hypocrit I never thought about it before. I also believe its tufer to look ricey in a 35k car versus a 6k used car

Some people agree but many of us "call rice" on S2K examples and aren't in love with everything JDM. Seems like you haven't read enough threads on this topic around here. Plenty of controversy.

All the outrageous track type stuff is rice, including the CR wing. I have the CR and I hate the wing. If I wasnt going to sell the car next year, I would have taken the wing off, filled the wholes and repainted the trunk lid.
Huge spoilers = rice/ugly
Wide body kits = rice/ugly
Most aftermarket rims =rice/ugly
Excessively lowered cars = rice/ugly

Oh ya, you better believe most JDM parts are uglier then they are rice.

I have to agree as well. Some people think just because this is an expensive car and that parts for it are expensive that its not rice anymore. IMO these kits are just a way to brag and get baller status cause they cost so f-ing much. 90% of the cars that get wings and aero kits will never see a track. The reason being is because why would you spend 2 grand on a kit that is going to get trashed on the track? Theres always the possibility of crashing and ruining the kit. Now obviously some people may have enough money and not care but the majority of people who buy the kits aren't exactly filthy rich.

The CR is about as far as I'd go with body upgrades. I hate the things behind the roll hoops and the wing is as big as I'd ever want to see on a car. The front lip is almost overdone as well. Roll cages are fine for me as long as they don't exceed 5 points. All these friggin 6 and 8 point cages in daily driven cars are rediculous. And it looks tacky to me.

I remember a thread a few months ago about how some dude wanted to put green HID's in his S That was the day I realized my precious car was not safe from ricage. No Honda is for that matter. As long as the price of this car keeps dropping we will be more and more overrun with people who have the mentality that creates such monstrosities.

Now it wouldn't be as bad if the above mentioned cars had some go with the show. But the majority of them just get annoying loud exhaust for performance upgrades (and dont get me started on exhausts ). My personal belief is to upgrade performance before you ever touch looks. That way you can back up your "aero" upgrades with something that will actually need them.

Well nvm I'm going to touch exhausts anyways . Why is it that you can stick a giant fart cannon on an S2k and its not a fart cannon anymore? Every time I see any other car with a farter on it people make fun of it. An S rolls out with $800 worth of exhaust (which is basically a huge pipe, resonator, and can big enough to house a small family of raccoons) and everyone goes, OH SNAP THAT THING IS NASTY!
