Clarification: Arguing about something that is impractical, retarded, and dangerous. I'll edit it so it gets the point (I intended) across.

Maybe the difference is the viewpoint of a 19 year old guy from S Cali and a 27 year old guy from Louisville.

Round these parts, we can run our cars at a pretty good clip in the twisties without a great fear of law enforcement. Basically it's because rural twisty roadways are unregulated for speed other than the basic maximum speed laws for the state. That means that if the roads are twisty and hilly enough, you can have a blast while never going more than 10 or so over the limit as long as you can keep it reined in down the straights. You can blast through a 15 mph curve at 50 and power through a series of swtichbacks and have a hell of a good time. To us, handling is everything. We rarely sit in bumper to bumper traffic as most of us have other cars for that. Not to mention that VilleS2K has a bitchin' new private road track just opening up almost in his back yard.
We do have roads around here where we can enjoy our cars as well. I just don't see how having our cars an inch or two lower than yours automatically makes it the worst handling thing ever created. It drives the same. I have driven a properly set-up s2000 and mine on a mountain road and at 90%, it honestly feels the same. I feel very confident in taking my car on a track at this ride height. I know it's not 100% ideal, but that is the compromise of a street car that I am willing to sacrifice. If I could afford to set it up as a dedicated track car, I can assure you, it'd be that extra one to two inches higher.

This argument is the same as the all season vs high performance summer tire argument. Is that sacrilege too? Why would anybody put all season tires on an s2000? Because they are cheaper, quieter, and last twice as long. Again, for a street car, I am willing to sacrifice that extra 2 mph around the corner. It's not like I am not going have as much fun as you in the twisties just because I am slower. 90% is still 90%.

It's all a fashion statement, like a lotta shit in life. Yeah it's not "practical" but I sure like my girl in heels instead of Birkenstocks.

Just do what you like to your car and let others do what they like. People do it b/c THEY like it and THEY think it looks good.

Personally I'm lowered about 2" with 17x9+45's in the rear with rolled fenders and -2 degrees. Im happy with the way it looks and handles. At the time, I never wanted to go more aggressive. Now I got a beater I want to get something more aggressive. I would probably have to run more camber but at this point its more like a weekend car now and I might drive it like 500 miles a month. I could care less about tirelife.

I think in the end it just boils down to what their car is used for, conditions of streets, tracking, and what they like.

it seems to be popular in the 240 world. i had very mild lowering (1 finger gap all around) and average size wheels 17x9 +20 w/ rolled fenders and it was hard to drive around. however some ppl run like 10.5" wheels with +7 offset and stuff...they're crazy.

can you please elaborate on this private race track opening near Louisville?
Actually a little closer to Cincy than L-ville but close to both. It's near Sparta.

2) This is how "improper" fender rolling could harm the car:

Of course many of us like unique looks and enhancing the performance of our cars. But I just don't get some mods, particularly slamming the car to where it's scraping, having so much negative camber that only half the tire contacts the ground and so much offset that the wheel will crack the fender over a large bump.

First, although this is subjective, it just looks ridiculous. Second, half of these setups have to compromise the handling. Third, scraping, fender rolling, etc. could all harm the car. Fourth, if you ever sell the car, it's going to have to be converted back to stock to appeal to a larger market.

This all just seems so ricey and immature in a way and could give our cars and owners a bad rap. And flame away all you want, this is just "IMO," so I don't care. I undertand lowering the car an inch or so, getting some wider tires, more flush, aggressive rims, etc., but only to a certain extent. And only something that actually fits the car!

Is this an S2000 fad or is it here to stay? And what does everyone think of these extreme mods?
I understand what u are saying! But everybody looks at it a different way, if its done right it will perform the right way, doesent mean u own a ferreri u should drive it the way it was built. Same thing with an s2000 people wanna do dumb shit with these cars let them do it, it makes us stand out from the crowd! It would be boring if all the s2000s looked the same! Im running descent agressive set up on mine! A little bit of camber front and rear, -3 and -3.5 lol! but i tell u what my car would out handle alot of cars on this site, and i still get pretty even tire wear and life from my tires, and its a daily driver! I've almost put 100k miles on since i bought it. I'm a car enthusiast and i respect all owners and understand that they mod things for a reason.

I especially love it when people think your tires will be bald after 500 miles running -3.5 camber. I ran that for ~6,000 miles and there was NO sign of camber of wear on my ap2.
