[B]Why not just put 2 10" subs under the seats like me? There are several problems with a sub in the trunk. My first 12" in the trunk was much like everyone elses and fired up into the bottom of the trunk lid...sounds horrible at almost all volumes but low and rattles a lot so then I put a 12" sub where the spare tire is facing the backs of the passenger seats. This provided a much better bass response and sounded much better as well as fixed 75% of the trunk rattles but it still was all your rear bass coming from the rear and all your high's and mids' coming from in front. With my final setup with the 10"s in the floor and the 4 6" Illusions mounted in the sealed kickpanel I am engulffed in sound. Brings all the sound to a front sound stage. Anyway just wanted to show you a third option...

Cyber Logic,
What is that red material? Just carpeting material? How did you buy enough space for the magnets to fit underneath? Did you just lift the red material high enough then mounted the sub on the red material? Sorry dude I am hella confused. I don't trust others with installs, so I do them myself, but I don't understand how you got this done.

hrm,

if i am interpeting that photo correctly, i believe the cylinder above the cone is actually the magnet and voice coil.

...a little Googling later...

http://www.illusionaudio.com/indexx.html

confirmed, that is actually a design for a shallow depth mount sub. curious design and great install, but a little less mystery would have been appreicated.

I bought the OEM spare tire sub (including the built-in "100W" amp) out of an RSX-S. It should fit nicely in the spare tire of the S2000. It won't produce a lot of bass, but I also won't lose any truck space. And it only cost me $25. I plan to install it this Spring (along with a Sony ES head unit and new door speakers). I'll post results then...

CyberLogic, two questions:

1. How much are those subs?
2. For the install, did they have to cut a hole in the bottom of the car???

1. The subs you can't get. The company went south and is restructuring but the carbon fiber illusions will never be availiable again. I am lucky enough to know a good portion of the Illusion staff and we decided to do an all illusion speaker system in my car. MSRP on the subs originally was like $800 each I think.

2. Yes...2 10" holes and then they put a 10"steel membrane back in to house the woofer and for sound.

No the seat or carpet is not raised at all. The woofer is flush with the bottom of the car...the membranes do not go lower than the exhaust or subframe braces on the car...it's about 1/8" above it...close...I know...

First I have a JL 5/500 amp mounted in the trunk well so the side mount was the only option. Also I liked the idea if I wanted to remove it I could do it quickly. I didn't hear it I went on the word of some board members that I've gotten to know. I'm real pleased with my purchase. I'm even considering add another sub in the other corner.

bah - sorry, i didn't mean that to come across as a 'slam'... the investigation was a bit of fun if nothing else...

i am sorry to hear that they are no longer offering them for retail though... that would explain why i couldn't find anyone who was selling the things... you think your friends might have 1 10" still hanging around they'd be willing to part w/ for a reasonable price?

and i'm still astonished you put 10" holes in the floorboards of your car!
