i want to be able to hook up my md player and/or my rio to my pioneer deh-p7200. it allows for aux input. according to some people i've asked, and to trial and error, i can get sound when i connect to the "front output" rca jacks.
the volume, though, is line-level, and cannot be changed with the head unit volume control, and it can be heard over the CD and FM.

apparently things like this are normally done through an amp, but i dont have one...so this was my idea.

for $80, i can get a "headphone amplifier" that should boost the sound. should i try this, and control the volume from this little amp? any risk of doing damage to speakers/stereo/etc?

here's the link: http://www.minidisco.com/minispecs/headbanger.html

thanks for your help!

Owwww, don't do it!

The Front-out connectors are exactly what they say, output for the front channel. They're probably 4V output designed to go into an amp and onwards to the speakers.

Does this head unit have input RCA's and are they in use? This is where you'd plug in another line level source like and MD or MP3 player.

My Sony has a single set of line level RCA AUX input connectors.

My Sony CD Changer is currently plugged in to it (red and white RCA's at top). There is also a Bus lead between the head and the changer (black plug at bottom) and because this is plugged in the head unit shows 'CD2' as a source option. To plug in further inputs requires a selector (sort of a quadruple adaptor).

Every Sony item plugged into this becomes available via the Source button. I can also connect non-Sony inputs using an adaptor

I know all this because I am currently installing an MP3 player in my S.

I'm sure Pioneer have similar products that allow you to multiply your input channel.
