I'm pushing 5k (s)miles on my S, and have never burned any oil at all. How do I know??

Because I've NEVER gassed up without checking the oil! Just make it part of the routine...pop the hood latch, swipe the card, set the nozzle, and check the oil.

I have an '00 car with 22k miles on the clock. When driven hard (i.e. most of the time) it still burns ~1qt. of oil every 1000 miles.

Checking oil level every fill up is just a good habit to get into.

I bought my 01 a month ago and it was only 8000 miles. I was so paranoid about running low oil, I checked it 3-4X per tank, ie when the tank was 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 full.

Noticing the consumption has sort of leveled off, I still check it twice per tank.
