But i guess that area would not excite alot of passengers as a central destination!
To paraphrase -- some of my best friends live in Sacramento.

But notice I do NOT. Too hot -- you could EASILY end up with it being too hot for top down driving by the end of June.

greg -- sorry to see that s2kDays is off. as a director of the north texas club i am familiar with busting ass to organize events. unfortunatley, some people don't appreciate the effort it takes, especially of this magnitude. however, when i look back at my decision to attend s2kdays it was more than one instance that made me turn away.

first, s2kca judged interest by suggesting laguna seca, drives in monterey, etc. unfortunatley, thunderhill is no where close to laguna, and sacramento is nothing like monterey. second, the political bs that took place over s2kca elections made me lose quite a bit of respect for the organization itself. i hate to say that because i know yall have done a lot of good for the club but what's done is done. finally, june? especially sacramento in june.

better luck next year...

I would like to say a couple of things in the defense of the event and the choices that were made along the way. First, obviously, we wanted Laguna Seca and Monterey would have been a draw and we busted our chops trying to make that happen. It didn't work out so we "settled" on the two track days we got at the track in January. We ended up giving one of the days back and the other we ran. It was a dream of mine and many others to drive that course. I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Not getting LS for S2KDays, we looked to the next best thing. Sear's Point. We couldn't get track time there either. Next plan. Thunderhill. We finally got dates from the and when a track gives you dates for an event, you don't have a lot of negotiation power. You pretty much have to take what they give you, especially if you are new organization and have never rented that course before.

So, we built the event around the dates Thunderhill gave us. We looked at the map and saw that it's a heck of a drive from Willows to Monterey, so we explored alternatives. We identified people in the Sacramento area to scout of locations for the event. They took pictures and video of the various suitable places around the area. We landed on the Sheraton. It is a truly beautiful hotel, with all the amenities, and more, that we needed. So we negotiated a contract.

Do you see what I'm getting at? This was the result of a HUGE amount of effort. Now, it's possible that it will bankrupt the organization. It's both stupefying and maddening that che club is now in this position. And the event could have taken place anywhere as it's designed to be self-contained with an entirely full program of events. Sacramento may not have the sex appeal that Monterey has, but it was an excellent compromise, so the dozens of people involved in the choosing and planning thought it was more than adequate.

Since the elections were brought up (a chapter I had closed happily a while back), everyone who wanted to vote voted and their votes were counted with absolute integrity. I'm not sure what Clovis is referring to the "political BS." I made a mistake or two, apologized to the person and we got on with our lives. Trust me, I awoke every morning with a renewed sense of wanting just to quit the whole thing...but I persisted because the critics are few, but they are loud...so I kept a sense of perspective. Others seemed to think this was some sort of truly history-making thing going on, when, in fact, it was an election for a car club. Yes, a car club. We're not a Fortune 100 organization. Just a bunch of whackjobs trying to have some fun with other folks...

So now, the club is on the hook for 30,000 dollars all because we tried to have an event that California people were upset about NOT having last year. I understand the financial status of many owners out there can be a little sketchy and the demographic has shifted to the younger set. But we had people coming all the way from South and North Carolina because they knew what a badass event it was, since they were at Asheville last year.

I have been going back and forth with the hotel trying to negotiate my way out of the contract. They don't seem to be willing to do a whole lot of compromise at this point. And if they don't allow us out, it will kill the club. I'm truly amazed. It's easy to criticize from the outside. But have we learned lessons? Sure we have. Lots of them...

Stay tuned...

greg, i want to set this straight now. i am not here to criticize...i recognize the hard work and devotion that was put into this event.

it was simply my intention to give you another point of view. i feel that you lost a great majority of the "initial" (250 person) interest when the above mentioned dreams became a reality. sometimes you just have to make compromises, that's understandable, but it took it's toll on overall interest. i am neither surprised nor baffled at the outcome. i'm also willing to bet that with a younger age group in so. cal that you would have had a large number of late registrations. agreed, that would have been a huge gamble.

and just quickly, when I say political bs I am referring to the trash talk that was thrown around by not only members of s2kca, but directors as well. i understand you have to defend the organization. however, i know for a fact that i am not the only one who has mentioned more than once to use pm or e-mail for such matters. some things are just not meant for all to see...

good luck

So people..

What kind of draw is it going to take to get you out here?!

There are soooo many nice roads between Sacremento and Tahoe.

We need to help S2KCA hotel rooms.

What do you want to see happen to entice you into coming?

Everyone can re-hash what heppen until we are all blue in the face. But personally, I think krazik has a great idea - come up with suggestions to make the event a "GO." If the club is on the hook for the hotel, this will probably be the only way to save the club.

Having been to Tahoe a number of times (and Sacramento a few), I can say the krazik is absolutely right - there are some great roads to drive out there. Yeah, it may be hot but its June - there are alot of HOT places that time of year - the east coast is no bargain.

If I remember correctly, Napa is only an hour and a half or two from Sac. So, for those of you with significant others, I'm sure they could find someway to pass the time in Napa/Sonoma.

Just some food for thought.....how about coordinating with the Sac people who are planning Sac2days? Looks like it will all be going down at the same time.

Rylan or Greg,

is there an update for those of us who signed up for the original S2KDays program? I'm just a little confused as to what's going on...

I have signed up for the new Thunderhill event, but I'm not clear what, if anything is going on with the hotel in Sacramento and refunds.

Confused in Seattle

p.s. To all who worked so hard on S2KDays, I'm sorry things haven't worked out better. I know a lot of effort was put in, and it must be very frustrating. Thanks for trying.

Greg, Krazik,

I also would like an update for those of us who jumped on board and signed up for S2K Days.

Everybody has to be somewhere so if the Sacramento people are planning something I might keep my hotel reservation. I wasn't coming for the track days so some scenic drives would be good. As far as the heat in June that's why Honda forced the AC on us as standard equipment, right?
