s2kchick, thanks for the input...good stuff. The only reason I wanted to rehash things was so that anyone who joined the conversation late would have an idea what happened over the course of planning this event...

Ted, I apologize for not relaying in a more timely manner how we are handling the refunds. I didn't want to refund everyone until we are sure that the event won't be happening. While, as it now appears, there MAY be something that takes place at the Sheraton but not anything near what we had planned originally, I'll get the checks out ASAP...meaning in the next few days.

The issue is not that we expected people who have paid to cover whatever expenses (in the form of a lawsuit from the Sheraton or whatever), I just wanted to make sure that there was really nothing going on at the Sheraton that weekend. And while the event has not been officially "cancelled" per se, whatever does happen there won't be the same as what we had originally expected. That means that we are NOT having the vendor expo, the dinners in the ballrooms etc. So if anything takes place, it will be much less formal...and at the discretion of those who wish to help put something together. At this point, there is so much antagonism towards Sacramento that I don't know what can possibly happen there. Even though Comptech is near there, they may still be willing to do the openhouse that I arranged. Is there any interest in this?

Recent ideas bandied about are that there is a group of folks that meet up to hopefully fulfill some level of obligation to the Sheraton, which I can use as a bargaining tool to lessen the blow that the Sheraton inflicts upon us. Oddly enough, based on the contract, we would owe less if we just cancel, as opposed to having it at this level. The banquet fees and room block fees actually totalled close to 50K dollars, but they are being cool and not hanging us for the whole enchilada. I could go into the details as to why and how this is true, but it would bore you all, I'm sure. It has to do with attrition rates and what we have committed to. Exciting stuff...

So, to all who have paid, I will either send the uncashed checks back to you or you will get a check payable to you in the full amount that you paid us. If you paid for track time, you will have to pay Krazik through whatever payment/registration system they have set up.

Again, sorry for the delay...I have been a little preoccupied trying to sort through this whole mess...thanks for your patience and understanding.

To Denny and anyone else who still wants to go...

While the event is basically been stripped of its original glory, I have been takling with Krazik about doing *something* in Sacramento to help the club reduce the obligation to the Sheraton. If you all would like to organize something, I know that several local people, including Blair Morrow et al, who would be helpful in doing the drives that they organized for the event. Perhaps another thread would be good to see what the level of interest is.

Right now, I'm just concerned with keeping the club alive and not getting sued. While that possibility may be remote, it's a possibility as I'm working a few angles to negotiate my way out of this corner that the club is now in...

So, what say you? Is anyone still interested in meeting up after the track time at the Sheraton for dinner and then doing the drives on Saturday that we planned into the Foothills on the way to Tahoe?

If so, speak up, I can use that as a bargaining chip with the hotel not to whack us likc stepchildren.

Thanks...

Greg,

thanks for the update; I understand that you have a lot to deal with right now. Hopefully the club will be able to get out relatively unscathed.

I'll keep an eye out for new plans for the weekend; we'll be down there anyway for the Thunderhill track event, so it would be great to do something over the weekend. Comptech and/or Lake Tahoe sound pretty good.

Thanks,

Ted

Greg and SacS2kdays Organizers,

Imagine my disappointment that S2Kdays have been canceled, especially after I had bought huge penalty factor plane tickets for the wife to fly to Sacto. Hey, I thought we all owned $32,840 sports cars and a few hundred bucks for a once every few year's event on the left coast would be a sure sell-out.

That being said, since I have already arranged for the time off, I am still looking forward to going to Sacramento for S2Kdays whatever form that takes. I still have my reservations at the Sheraton for Friday and Saturday night and my wife has plane reservations to arrive in Sacramento on Thursday evening June 20th. I have yet to make reservations anywhere for Thursday, but will probably use the Sheraton, assuming I can get the same $99 rate.

My plan is to get into Willows on Wednesday, use one of the track days on Thursday, hang out in Sacto with the wife on Friday, and participate in the local events on the weekend. I'll be heading back to Phoenix Sunday afternoon.

Looking forward to a great time with the Sacto owner's group and Bay Area owners groups. Thanks for picking up the pieces. I truly believe as one of you said on your local site, "we'll be making lemonade out of lemons here."

Greg,
i wanted to say that i would be willing to kick in $25-50 for an emergency donation to the club (hopefully along with many others) to keep the club going. It's only been 2 months that i have owned my s2k and been on this site and the car clubs site and i see something worth helping.

Greg, I spoke w/ Comptech today, and they are not sure they still want to do the open house for us.

Sac2KDays is rapidly evolving....the info we have so far can be found here.

Here is the info on where we will be staying.

We want to welcome you to our backyard...home of some of the most beautiful drives our state has to offer. No matter how far you are coming from, this will be a journey you won't soon forget. I can't wait to see you all there!!

P.S. To those concerned about our Hot June weather, Tahoe will be beautiful. It is usually much cooler there than it is here in the valley.

Greg, hopefully you can still work it out to where those attending Thunderhill can stay one night at the Sheraton before they join us in Elk Grove for breakfast. Updates are coming as we get them.

I hope people will consider the Thunderhill track event, which is organized by and for S2000 owners, as part of the sac2kdays event, I don't see much mention of it above. For those of you staying in Sacramento, the track is about 1 hr.'s beautiful drive north from the city. We have 25 S2000's coming so far to drive and about another 5-10 (that I know of) just to hang out. We will have driver's education and DE run groups, as well as timing for those who want it in separate run groups. We also need more volunteer instructors (if you feel you're qualified for this, please contact me). Instructors get free lunch.
