Whatever with the "gay image" thing. If by "gay" you mean succesful urbanite, then you're right. VW is mostly a victim of successful marketing. And lots of teenage girls buying stripped down 2.0's.
I've got 130K miles on my Jetta and the torquey motor is still fun as hell. Haven't had anything catch on fire or powered items go bad. I've always found my VW dealer (four different ones in two states) responsive and capable.

It's cool to have pride in your sh*t but it can be done without the extra dose of haterade. Don't get me started on the prototypical S2000 owner I see around here with Prada sunglasses and long fingernails pulling out in their brand new S2000, afraid to push the gas pedal because they're afraid of "going too fast?"
