I found out about this TSB 10,000 miles ago, but the problem barely bothered me at all. So I waited until I had 25,000 miles on it, and then felt it was the prefect time to do it. If the problem isn't bothering you, wait a few more miles until you've worn it down a bit.

I think that mine was buzzing when I drove it off the lot. I just didn't realize that it was a problem, then. I waited until I had 17,000 miles on mine and had them change it. I didn't see the old one, but I imagine that there couldn't have been much friction material left on the disk. My old one had a lot of free travel before it started to engage.

Thanks for the info...I guess I'll wait at least another 5000 miles, or as long as I can stand the buzzing. I just have to keep reminding myself that it sounds like an old indy lights transmission!

Hey Red Blur,

I've been waiting as well and am now interested in getting it done. If I might ask, did you get it done locally here in the bay area? Which dealer did you go to? Also do you know who the technician was? I always worried about being the first one for these guys. Did you have them do the other TSB for the 2nd gear grind while they were in there?

Thanks.

Ron - I'd wait a bit if I were you....think about it...a free clutch. As long as you can stand the sound.

This is not a recall, it's a TSB. Technical Service Bulletin is what TSB stands for and it is a means of AHM notifying their dealer network of common problems and the approved fix for them.

Telling your service people that you want TSB # 054 installed may not be the best approach to take. I think that it might be better received if you tell them the symptoms and lead them in the TSB direction. I think that most dealers will also want you to demonstrate the symptoms to them before they do anything. Even then, some dealers will try to blame the driver for tearing their car up by racing or whatever.

I left my car at the dealer's and they tested it themselves and replaced the clutch disk with no hassles.

Good luck,
Bob

I believe the TSBs for the buzzing and for the gear grinding call for the work to be done under warranty. If the car is out of warranty, you may have to ask for "good will" consideration. Since many 2000 model S2000s are coming up on the end of their 36 month warranties, make sure you don't get yourself in a situation where you end up losing out on getting work done under warranty. If your warranty is about to expire, you may want to consider getting the TSB work done now, rather than waiting.

How many people who have gotten the tsb done still have that buzzing sound. I had my clutch replaced at 22,000 miles in year 2001, it seems that after about 5,000 miles it started making noise again. What do think? Every time I go to the dealer I complain but they say that just the car. Should I try a different dealer?
