I would like to upgrade my stock s2000 stereo system.

Can anyone give me advice on which parts I need to replace
(speakers, amp etc) and recommend any manufactuers of
these parts. Is is easy to fit a new stereo/speakers/amp
or do you need to take your car to a specialist center to
have the new equipment fitted?

thanks,

John.

I replaced everthing: speakers (MBQuart components) and head unit (Pioneer) and added a subwoofer in the trunk, a 12-disc changer in the spare tire space, and Pinky's mod to retain the dash control of the head unit.

The sound is spectacular, as good as the 6 speaker Bose-designed system in my Mazda Millenia.

I replaced everything as well. The components are, of course, a matter of personal preference but I chose to go with a Kenwood Excelon head unit and amp (mounted in the trunk) and Boston Accoustic speakers. I had intended to add a sub (in the trunk as well) but am so happy with the current sound that I may not. Before the sound was so bad at highway volume that it gave me a headache. Now, it's a completely different sound. I think the real key is the amp to make sure you have the power to push the clarity as well as the volume. Talk to Pinky, he was extremely helpful in my decision making.

I also have a few questions.....

1) without the mod, no in dash controls will work with a replacement sysytem??? and if so how, how is that mod obtained? sepcial order or any specialty place can do that?

2) In dash face. i know this might be a stupid question.... but the color of the face? will other colors other than the dominant orange thats in the car make the interior look like crap?!?!?

jpsc,
if you want top of the line speakers that are highly recommended and don't require any speaker basket modifications, chk here:

HAY HAY HAY. Im right here.
Well I will start a flame war right now and say if your gonna go with an amp go with a new head unit. If you haven't installed stereo equipment in cars yet...this isnt the car to start tinkering on! Its so cramped and such a nice car that you dont want to drill into the gas tank or scratch panels!

Though if you were to do a system I will generalize and say.....Pioneer/Clarion head unit, Cadence/Memphis/Orion amp, Speakers Cadence/Memphis/Pioneer, Sub Cadence with out a doubt!, wiring good Stinger wire. On top of all this you need a creative mind and a good working knowlege of stereo's and how cars come appart.

If you want to just do a head unit and speaker upgrade....thats easy!!!!! Just about anybody with 3 hrs on their hands can do that.
