I think you can shave a couple hundred pounds off the car with a *full* CF setup, at a cost of around $100,000.00, and get more room in the fenders for bigger tires in the process.

200 lbs. for 100,000 dollars is $500.00 per pound, and even if the CF dropped the weight by 1000 lbs. it would still be costing $100 per pound, which is not much of a bang for the buck.

In comparison, a set of Elise seats can be purchased for less than you'll get for your stock seats (so they cost essentially nothing) and will cut the weight at least as much as a CF hood and trunk lid (if not more).

I don't understand
What pert of my post did you think was BS?

The weight loss was reported my a local owner with those mods, and he said 21lbs.

I have the Invidia dual V3 and when I removed the stock exhaust it weighed just over 59 lbs. When I weighed the new exhaust it was almost 40 lbs.

as far as the ex-lax comment, I was only kidding!

I've never been able to find a set of Elise seats. Any ideas where to get them?

Also when I was adding sound deadening to the car I decided to weigh the front fenders and front bumper with my bathroom scale. Each fender weighs 10 lbs and the bumper weighs 10 lbs as well. So even if you removed all 3 you'd only save 30 lbs. Of course then you'd look like you had a Plymouth Prowler.

It's a shame too because I had $$$ in my head when I was thinking about making body panels for extra money on the side. It's just not worth it to change them.

I had similiar ideas when I bought the S2000, thinking it would be easy to shave some serious weight, but it's turned out to be tougher than I originally thought.

If you'll PM me I'll put you in touch with the guy who I'll be getting the seats from.
BTW, we have not yet measured the seats for fit, but we'll be doing that one day next week. In the Miata (which already sits lower than the S2000) the seats are right ON the floor, and too low for me. They're going to have to be raised up some to work in the S2000, but if I can still get the hatch between the seats open with the Elise seats in the car, that's the way I'm going. The seats are very light, rock hard, wider (inside) than the S2000 seats, and have a nice adjustable lumbar support. I just hope I can find a pair in red that will match my door trim and carpets. If not maybe I'll be able to get the cloth covering dyed to match. First though, we gotta make sure we can make them fit and work as well as the OEM seats.

My CF hood is definitely lighter than stock. I believe it is manufactured by C-wings. I just took it off a few days ago to get it clearcoated. I haven't had a chance to weight them both on the scale, but by holding them up side by side the CF is about 2-3 pounds lighter. I didn't buy it for weight reduction, just the looks, but it's nice to know I shaved a couple pounds. For the most part, you have to spend big money saving weight through body panels. If you're super baller, ASM makes polycarbonate side windows and a windshield.
