It almost sounds as if the differences between the AP1 and Ap2 you owned were as if you were comparing a Luxury Sedan to a sub compact.... I mean... I get the tweaks that Honda made over the years added to comfort and stability etc, but they were just that "tweaks". They are far more alike than different..
...Not to mention that most of the world kept the F20c engine throughout the years.
Have you driven an AP2? I was surprised at the number of detail changes. Car drives very differently- Honda continually tweaked spring/damper settings throughout the run, and the steering rack is slower. The biggest difference by far is top gear acceleration, which in the new car I don't feel like I'm about to get run over if I don't downshift. Granted, shifting the gearbox is no chore, but I find the AP2 to be much more liveable, if less manic. F22C was JDM from 2006 onward. EUDM kept a DBW F20C. I know.

Also, the audience of this thread is S2000 fanatics, who know that they are mostly the same car, and I just thought I had an interesting perspective to share, having swapped one car for the other.
I have driven and differences are subtle.... Think you are suffering from new car syndrome.
I prefer the analog nature of Ap1s and I would never give up the f20c engine which is one of the most coveted engines ever made.

My point exactly. You're an AP1 person and I'm an AP2 person. I greatly prefer the F22C and you prefer the F20C. I think they feel very different. Neither of us is right or wrong.

The point of my thread was to point out all the little differences. And I did. And I pointed out that the engine was the biggest difference. And it seems like you agree.

So you are saying there isn't much difference, except one has an engine that is so different you would never give it up and its one of the most coveted ever.

Sounds like you are saying there are differences after all...

To an S2000 owner, there are noticeable differences. To someone who has little experience or seat time in a sports car, they're wondering what the hell any of this stuff means.

Had my first drive in an AP2 recently; loved the torque. The suspension had been (poorly) modded, so I can't comment on that (felt terribly unstable compared to my stock '00).

That said; the s2000 is a great car, regardless of iteration.

The AP2 was spawned by the Ap1..... Everything that makes the Ap2 a great car originated in the AP1..... However, all of the accolades and excitement of what the S2000 was involved the AP1 and F20c. Even to this day the F20c is the most respected naturally aspirated engine ever made.....
The AP2 was an "improved" version of the s2000, but the original was the masterpiece..... Purists get this...... So I don't get the constant sibling rivalry that goes on between Ap1 and Ap2 to be honest. I never qualified which is better..... but there is nothing like an original.....

Hey man, you are entitled to your own opinion. Since I actually bought and paid for both cars and own them, I thought I'd have a unique perspective.

I always pass in 6th gear on the highway in my Ap1. I drove 800 miles home from the Dragon on the weekend and all of my highway passing was done in 6th gear, I never really have to downshift to a lower gear unless I'm going up a really steep mountain, and even then it isn't always necessary. I get plenty of passing power in 6th.

You're probably going faster than I am, or your AP1 is stronger than mine. I'm in moderate traffic all the time, so top gear acceleration from 60 mph is much slower in my AP1.
