BIGGEST issue for s2k is burning oil. If you get an s2000 that burns oil, it will eat up your oil very quick.

For Example: I own a 2002 M3. The common complaints from M3 owners are:

1. Cold start issue (engine stumbles and dies after it sits for more than 2 days).
2. Drive train clunk when changing gears.
3. Exhaust vibrates badly when cold for first few minutes.
4. Oct-Dec 01 build cars have very high rate of crank bearing failure.

This is something Consumer Reports won't tell you. This is the same thing I'm looking for concerning a S2000 issues.
I have had the cold start issue before a few times. It's fairly random, it'll either die or I can give it gas and it idles high for a minute and then runs fine.

Other than that, I had a tear form in the top and got it replaced under warranty and then a year or so later the tear came back (out of warranty!)

Other than that seems like it's running fine and I've almost hit 70K

I, too, have a bad window regulator. I don't consider it a problem, since the consequences are so minor. Moderate burning of oil is a frequent problem, solved by checked the oil level appropriately. I consider the biggest problem to be the tire consumption issue, and of course there is not cure for this except for replacing tires rather frequently - max 15,000 miles for the rears, about 25,000 for the fronts.

My problems.

1) Makes me drive like an ass whenever I'm behind the wheel.
2) Speeding Tickets
3) Tire wear from drifting/burnouts
4) Permanent wrinkles on face from grinning
5) Tendency to push start button or adjust volume when driving other cars
6) Sunscreen budget through the roof
7) Wearing shoes unevenly from constant heel-toe downshifting

But seriously... the only real problem I've experienced is a bit of softtop/hardtop rattling.

soft top tears from the frame burr. seems to have gotten fixed somewhere along the line, like 06? my 05 definitely has the issue.

soft top elastic the pulls the middle bar wears out and causes the top to fold incorrectly. this can cause other tearing issues.

if the previous owner didn't close the soft top latches before lowering the top it will make pretty nasty wear marks.

if the engineer took a day off when they did the diff, he was drunk when they designed the top

I was wondering what are some of the common issues owners are having with the S2000? I saw a thread were an owner said he got rid of his S2000 because of all the trouble he had with it. I thought Honda cars were bulletproof and nearly trouble free????
Common issues:
1) 10k miles per set of rear tires
2) Transmission notchy when cold (1-2 shift in particular)
3) Pressure plate somewhat on the weak side
4) Wear spots on convertible top (burrs on frame)

That said, the car is largely bulletproof and trouble free.

You can look at the list of TSBs - clutch buzz on decel, rear axle pop, etc. But you'd be unlikely to find a car today that hasn't already had those issues fixed.
