iirc, the straw that broke xviper's back revolved around signatures...

I'm new here and would like to hear a bit more about the history of s2ki. at dbr i heard a few people talking about problems between s2ki and s2kca. whats the nature of the problems? also, what events led to the exodus of some members of this site and their move to s2kca (namely xviper)? if any of this is personal or water under the bridge that people would rather not bring back up, thats completely fine, i have just had my interest piqued.
Abbreviated history:

S2KI was HondaFans (run by HondaGal). Cthree took that over, changed it to S2000online, of which S2KCA was loosely a part of (in that their forums were a subset of S2000online). That arrangement didn't work, they parted ways, S2000online became the S2KI that you know today. S2KCA has their own forum, as do a number of groups (Atlanta comes to mind) who for one reason or another didn't find it in their interests to be part of S2KI. Plenty of drama, personal feuds, bad blood, bruised egos, and that sort of thing. S2KI is a privately owned for-profit entity, S2KCA is a non-profit national club (i.e. the members "own" it). People have gone back and forth for a long time; there are a lot of people on both. Each has its pros and cons. And, it should be noted, that many of the same problems that occur here (notably the lack of new S2000 material to discuss) plays out there too.

I agree with your assessment that more and more young people can afford the car, hence more and more debris on the site. If you are young and disagree, then I applaud you for not acting like some hard-gangsta asshole on the site. Go look at the flaming that happened when someone recently asked about the 08 Accord in the Car Talk section. But don't feel too bad...the Bodybuilding.com forum is far worse.

I looked up this guys profile and aside from having 30,000+ posts, I didn't see anything astonishing - why was this member so great?

X reached his tolerance limit.

Someone started whining to him about a cartoon drawing of an S. It was THEIR cartoon and should never be used by anyone else (as part of a signature for example).

X called him on it with a simple and very logical response, then the guy got all his buddies to start spouting idiocy on Xviper threads to get even.

X had enough. I think he felt that Kindercare had taken over the forum, and he moved on. It was a final straw on the camel's back, but a classic example of the worst sort.
