What made you get an S
I'm not an owner yet, but hope to be before the month is done...
My boyfriend (at the time) had one, which was the first I had seen the S in person. Since then I've met a few owners, and loved the opportunities I've had to drive the car.
Now that I finally have enough money to buy something fun (but nothing that would have outrageous maintenance costs), I had two stipulations:
1. RWD
2. Convertible
I had already owned a Mustang and knew I liked the S. I'm boiling over with excitement at being an owner. The only trouble will be waiting until the weather is good enough to start driving her!

I got creamed while sitting at a stoplight in my '00 4dr Sierra. Even though the repairs were done perfectly, I wanted out of that vehicle. We had two other family cars and a 1400 Intruder. So we allowed ourselves to look for a sportscar and/or convertible. I couldn't get my hands on a 2002 Camaro SS convertible(it was July/Aug '02). Locally, 350Z's were pre-sold until October and the MR2 had no place for golf clubs.
The only thing I knew about the S2000 was that Johnny "Too soon, Junior" Tran had a black one. True story. Other family members had had great experiences with imports so looked at Honda.
My father retired from GM(30+yrs).
Took a test drive off the showroom floor and onto a freeway onramp... bought that car right away!!! So as much as I hate to agree with RazorV3, the test drive immediately sold me.

Over 53k miles and $60k later.... still loving it.

the only thing i dislike, actually, HATE about my honda is that it is indeed a honda. Honda service has to be the absolute worst service in the entire galaxy! i have numerous complaints with Honda NA on almost every single dealership i've visited. from bent fenders to using stock diff fluid, etc. for this reason, i will never buy another honda until they bring over the same service from acura to honda.

The first time I saw one in person I KNEW this was the car! An exotic sports car from Honda and it did not come with the out of this world sticker price like the NSX.
The best reasons were quoted by another member here on this site so sorry for stealing this line but it is a Classic " The Miata is too small, the Corvette is too big(not to mention GM lousy quality), the boxster too expensive, the S is JUST RIGHT"
The look, the accurate steering, awesome brakes, 6 speed gearbox, razor sharp responses, Honda quality, and 9000 rpm engine(Sorry 04-05 owners) is to me an unbeatable combination.
