Hype and hype alone. I read a lot of stuff on these boards and fell victim to the worshipping and praise the car got.

After owning it though my excitement for the car wore off pretty fast which is why I sold it. I mean sure it's loads of fun with the top down and corners well but it makes a lot of noise and goes no where + it's annoying to commute in.

I think it's a good car in small doses which is why those who use it as a weekend car are in complete love. It was my only car and I got bored fast.

In 2004 I sold my 1970 Boss 302 Mustang. I had it for 9 years and won a lot of awards, etc. Nothing sounds like a Boss V8 with it's solid lifters at 7000 rpms. It was all original Wimbleton White and a driver. My oldest son at that time had a s2000 2002. I drove his car and liked it! I left the fuss of the "old iron" and turned the money around on a new 2004 silverstone w/ black & red. I miss the sound and all the attention at red lights but really like the s2000. I'm 60 years old and don't need the repair work and hunting for expensive parts any more.

After seven pages, the kind of "former" cars starts repeating but I haven't heard this one yet.

I had a 1993 Alfa Romeo... no not an Alfa Romeo Spyder, I had an Alfa 164S and I still miss it... a little. It's a four door front wheel drive car. If you've watched "Top Gear", you've heard Misters Clarkson, Hammon and May repeat, "You're not a proper petrol head until you've owned an Alfa Romeo. I think there are two reasons for this: The first is that Alfa Romeo makes cars that are fun to drive... even though my 164S was front wheel drive, and even though it had a few horse power less than a 1993 M3, it was more fun to drive. In fact I drove a 2002 M3 and I still preferred my Alfa Romeo 164S. It isn't logical but it's true.

The second reason they say you're not a proper petrol head if you haven't owned an Alfa Romeo? Well, have you ever heard about people "suffering for their art"? It means in this sense that someone is willing to suffer for their convictions and the Top Gear guys are saying that you really prove you're petrol head by owning an Alfa because they do make you suffer. I bought the car with about 88,000 miles on it. A week later the water pump went out - $1400 repair. The electric seats quit working - $480. The pulley tensior gave out a month after that - $1100. The brake light computer went out... three times. It cost $500 the first time and the shop felt sorry for me the 2nd and 3rd times so the cut the price by half. And then the rear brake lights quit working... again. I got to be an expert at turning the clearance lights on when I pressed on the brake pedal... which also meant that I couldn't drive the car at night. At the time I sold it I totaled up what it would cost for the maintenance items the prior owner had deferred and with which I had been living (it needed a new clutch, new gears in the HVAC system, the rear brakes lights had failed... AGAIN! and so on.) The bill would have been somewhere between $7000 and $9000 dollars.

I considered a Boxster S but I owned an Audi once and although it didn't make me suffer like the Alfa, I knew the Porshe would make me suffer. I also considered the M3 but rejected that idea for the same reason.

Then one day three unlikely things happened... in January. The first is that the sun came out. I live in the Seattle area and sometimes it's unusual to see the sun in August but sunshine in January could only mean a sign of the second coming of the Saviour or that this same Supreme Being wants me to buy a convertible. Knowing that a few of the warning signs for the former had yet to occur, I settled upon the latter as being the more likely sign. The second unlikely thing is that I ran across an article that compared 5 rag tops: 350Z, Audi TT, BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster, and the S2000. I was surprized that the S2000 won the comparison. The last unlikely thing that happened (why do they come in 3s?) is that my wife left me... don't worry it was only for a few days (this isn't THAT big of a melodrama). I was bored so I decided I better go test drive one of those S2000s at the local dealer. I was sold within about six blocks. I didn't buy that particular car but I found a very nice 2005 w/ 15,000 miles for $16,300 and made the deal. So far, not a single thing has fallen off and no electrical problems. Pretty close to 100% fun and 0% suffering.

Loved the S2000 when it first came out, reading about it in Car and Driver. After graduating from college, I saved for a while to replace my aging Accord. I test-drove a Civic Si (they were brand-new at the time), an Accord V6, and several Subaru Rex's and Legacys. Then I test drove two S2000's back-to-back (AP1 and AP2). I was sold on the cars instantly but felt I needed more practicality in an only-car situation.

Eventually settled on the Accord V6, and it is a good car, but the those test drives in the S2000's never left my head. I swear I thought about ripping up that on-ramp near the dealer at least a few times a week for the next two years. I had the S2000 as the background on all my computers and my Blackberry. I used to yell "S2000!" whenever one passed by. When I paid off the Accord I realized I could afford an S2K as a weekend car, as a big splurge, but within reason. When I finally got it I just couldn't believe it was happening. For weeks I kept thinking, "Oh @Q#%! I'm sitting in an S2000 and it is mine!"

It's not a Ferrari or a 911 GT3 or anything, but it was my dream car and now it's mine. I still can't walk away from it after a drive without turning my head around to check and make sure it's really there and I wasn't just dreaming.

Always had been a Honda nut since a kid. In 2000 I saw my 1st S taking a left turn and getting sideways through an empty intersection a-la Sonny Crockett in his pseudo-Daytona. My Lude couldn't do that. My pulse was pounding. I had to have that car.

I always admired the S2000. The first time I really saw one up close and personal was when I was at a local car meet. I was driving an RSX at the time and was there with the RSX Club. Out of nowhere a group of S2K owners came by and parked beside my car, I felt so privileged that they'd park beside me.

The other time was I just got off from school, nice day and jamming to some tunes. In my rearview mirror I saw something what I thought looked like an F1 car coming. I was like wow, what car could that be? As soon as it pulled up I saw that it was an S2000 with the J's Racing Kit and Wing. A girl was driving it, S2Kute lol, man I loved that car.

2 Years ago, I had some extra cash coming. I really wanted to plan a trip or something huge, but none of my friends at the time were available, they were either working or had school to finish. I then wanted to put my money into something useful, each pay cheque I had I burned right through it with nothing to show for, so I decided on a car, a really nice car. Now don't laugh, but the initial car I wanted at the time was a 350z, it seemed newer at the time and that weighed heavily on my choice. I still wanted the S2000, but there wasn't one available for me to test drive, I only sat in one and compared to the Z it seemed kind of small and tight. My other preference was that it had to be in white as well, I promised myself that. The dealership I was talking to said they could get me a brand new white 350z in less than week, all I had to do was put a downpayment right now, so I did. A week goes by, no car, I called the dealership and the car they were suppose to sell to me, they actually sold to someone else .. I was pissed. After a huge hassle with the general manager at the dealership there I was able to get my deposit back. I then decided to go to another Nissan dealership to see if I would have better luck with them, unfortuantely I didn't and they informed me the only 350z left in all of Canada was blue. I was initially reluctant as I was set on white, but I could live with blue, only if they could price match what the other dealership offered me. Now, the other dealership's price included rust proofing, this new dealership however did not. I argued why I would go to them, when the other one was cheaper, they argued that that's not what the quote said, so I went through line by line with them. I was getting fed up, so I asked falt out if they were able to price match or not?! That's when the general manager for this dealership came in and said "Forget it, we won't." I walked out of another Nissan dealership, pissed. What a complete and utter waste of time and to think it was apparently customer appreciation day, Ha! At this point my Dad saw how frustrated I was and told me he knew a general manger at a local Honda dealership. we walked in talked to the general manager and had his best sales guy help us out right away. Now the differance right off the bat with this guy vs. the Nissan sales guy was that he was honest. He didn't try to sugarcoat the car, he didn't try to bash the 350z, he told me what he knew about the S2000 and what I needed to know if I were to get one. He told me that it would take 3months for me to get my car because the color I wanted (GPW w/ red and black interior) was hard to come by and had to be custom built. He said he'd try his best to get my my car ASAP, but he couldn't guarantee it, just because he was honest, I said "OK" and put a deposit down that day. 1 week later, the exact same car I wanted was being sent to another dealership, they were able to get the car for me and I was a happy camper .

A few months later the canadian dollar went up and prices for US S2K's seemed worth it, lol. Oh well, I still love the car and have a nice tan to prove it.
