I've got a buddy who poured thousands into his WRX, and frankly, it still isn't that fast. I have no problems leaving him FAR behind from any sort of roll in my chipped 9-3 aero (272 fwhp, 367 fwtq).
The S2000 is not a fast car, but it's quick enough. The engine is A LOT of fun to use, and the car is a great package. The fun-to-drive factor is very hard to match. I would say impossible at the price-point.
The WRX has more space, and might be a better DD for that reason, but the gas-mileage I get out of the S is unbelievable. I'm averaging close to 25 mpg, with a mix of city/highway/backroads, and I let the RPMs get up there a decent amount.
Test drive the S. Completely different feel.

My last fillup I averaged about 24mpg with a mix of highway/stop and go traffic/lots fun fun wot driving.
That is with an upgraded turbo. 317awhp. I'm sure the s2k still gets better mileage all around but nothing that is a huge difference.
I still think it looks like a very fun car to drive though although my wrx can also be very fun at times.

I had a 2003 WRX with Ecutek and turboback pushing about 270HP.
I loved the car but everything about the S2000 is better aside from straight line acceleration and torque.
The WRX shifter felt fine when I owned the Subaru but now having owned my S2K for the last 2 years driving a WRX feels like $hit.
You know how everyone says Porsche and Lotus cars have the best steering feel? Well the S2000 has the best transmission feel in the world, period.
WRX brakes felt fine before I had an S2000, but now with my experience in the Honda the Subaru's brakes felt like crap.
Same goes for the handling...
And the steering on the wrx: I did everything from steering rack bushings to front bars, etc...it still turned in like a truck. I was on the verge of spending 1500$ for a quick ratio steering rack from revlab but told myself : ''enough'' and I just bought a better sports car in the S2K.

well guys I think I decided for now I'm going to hold onto the subaru. Its great for daily driving and I just don't know how the s2000 would do on that. The subaru will be paid off in less than 2 years and I'm thinking maybe I'll hold off and wait a couple years and wait till I have that good job and then I'll look into picking up a 06 or 07 s2000. I'd definately like to own one someday but I think for now the suby is for me. I still look forward to coming on here and seeing some really nice cars.
Thanks for everyone that has repsonded to this thread.

I wouldn't say I have a ton sunk into it but enough money invested in my car that it is a little difficult to go back to stock so easily. I know I wouldn't be able to make back what I've spent and I guess that is some of it too. I still really want an s2000 but I think for now its not the right time.

I had a saab 92x ( same as WRX) for about a year. I put 40k miles on it. It was a fun car and great in the snow for snowboarding. The S is really different, if you can't get past the difference in interior space , I think you will be pleased.
