I have the Modifry and typically only ever see 4 bars if I stop moving. I installed a lower temp fan switch and that will kick on just before it rolls to 5 bars, very rarely will it click to 5 before it drops back down. There is a difference in the temp of where the fan switch is (in the radiator) and where the etc picks up (the back of the block), so the temp is much lower where the fan switch is then displayed on the indicator. At the track I hover in the 3/4 bar range. So I would say my car is 180-190 normal use, 205-215 stopped on a hot day after hard driving and 195-205 on the track. Just a guess though.

The chart shows 3 bars (OEM) as 160*. The Modifry unit adjusts the scale, since no engine will survive the 273* max reading on the OEM gauge.
Duh... I was confused by the different color of the first bar. My bad

So, what is the desired operating temp for an AP1 ??
Service manual says thermostat is fully open at 194* F, and the cooling fans cycle on at 196-203*, and cycle back off at at 5-15* less than the on temperature.

Reading my temps with a scanner shows I'll run 190-205* while cruising. I have seen as high as 210-215* when I get bogged down in stop and go traffic running the A/C in 100*+ weather.

If I ever saw 4 bars on a stock temperature gauge I'd pull over immediately, something is wrong and its only going to get hotter if you keep going.

I have a dash app on my phone where I watch my coolant as one of several of the parameters. The fans kick on at 204F every time. 4 bars would put you way outside that range and be reason for concern and investigation. I would also suspect the fans not kicking on as the first to rule out. This is easy to do, let the car idle for 10-15 min and wait for them to kick on which you can clearly hear/see. Or get an app on your phone to help. Useful tool.
