Default CEL P1456

2001 w/ 74,xxx miles
-Berk Test Pipe

Car is driving like normal. No change in performance at all. CEL came on while cruizing on the highway half way through route.

Went to Auto Zone & recieved code:
CEL P1456 EVAP Emission Control System Leak Deteacted (Fuel Tank System)

What should my next step be in solving this problem?
Thanks.

Thats what I thought orginally. I tried taking it off & on multiple times, but nothing.

Should I get another cap? Maybe that one isn't seating correctly?

Try disconnecting one of the battery terminals. Wait about 5-10 minutes and then reconnect the battery. This will reset the computer - but also will disable the stock radio so make sure you have the radio code handyso you can get the radio to work again

If the problem is that the gas cap wasn't on / wasn't seated correctly, the CEP should not come back on. I never had a CEP come on, problem fixed, and then the CEP goes out. Once its on, it stays on until the problem is fixed and the computer is reset and that's done with either a code reader/reset or disconnecting the battery ....

My $0.02.

If you just take the gas cap off and put it back on, making sure its tight, the cell should disappear in a few days. I had this happen last week and it went away.

I was going to reset the ECU following these instructions:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=S...0#entry12038951

But I just wanted to make sure that I'm following the proper steps so that this possible small problem doesn't turn into a bigger one later.
Thanks.

The evap system on the car will not cause any real problems. Code is set when ecm detects leak in fuel tank seal. The most common cause is gas cap loose or starting to leak. It is very common an all cars with high mileage. The teeth in the cap that cause it to click wear out over time and the seal on the cap slowly degrades. Replace the cap with a new honda cap. Remove the negative cable to reset the computer and drive on. Honda ecm's use two trip logic for fault codes so you will have to run two drive cycle's to be sure its fixed. If the light returns you may have small leak in the canister or evap purge/vent valves. I am ase master tech and 99% of the evap leaks I see are related to faulty fuel caps. IF the cap doesn't fix it schedule an appointment with your mechanic for evap diagnostic and prepare to pay.

As said before. It's gas cap. Make sure that it's on all the way down. Put a little oil on the male thread portion of the cap and apply a little downward pressure while twisting. You should then feel it seat.

Ride for a bit and the code should go off on its own. This may take a few drive cycles.
