Cold (choke) idle question
I have a brand-new MY07 S2K, and in my opinion the idle speed on a cold start is too high. This is my first S2K, so I don't know if they all do it (which is why I am asking you knowledgeable gurus here
)
My beast idles at 2100RPM from a cold start which I feel is excessive - a more comfortable speed would be in the region of 1100 - 1300RPM. My other Hondas (MY07 Accord Euro and MY06 FR-V) don't do this, and indeed idle at a sane RPM when ice-cold.
Maybe it's only the performance Hondas that do this - I used to own a 2.2VTiR Prelude that used to bug me in the same way. I belong to the old school that holds that you REALLY nurse that engine when it is cold (I don't exceed 2000RPM until I have a reasonable (water) temperature reading, and then I don't exceed 3500RPM until 5 minutes after that point - when the oil temp has had a chance to stabilise). Then, and only then, do I thrash it if I have to.
If I approach my dealer with this question, I KNOW I am going to get fobbed off - and nothing will happen. What I would like to know is if this fast-idle / choke setting can be programmed / altered somewhere in engine management? I'd like to take it into the dealer, and say 'Do X, Y and Z' and know that I am speaking from a position of knowledge.
Thanks in advance!
Jon

I agree, i just tried the whole shift low for gas mileage...ran upon the MPG thread someone said to try shifting at 3500-4000, so now i shift at 4k, i go places faster, and i get BETTER mileage! roughly 23 with both highway/city/vtec. Good enough for me
I do however tend to shift a bit lower for the intitial 4 minutes or so for eveything to warm up nicely before getting on it or anything.
