Default Convertible joints need oiling?

Hey there, just wondering if the rotating joints in the soft top frame need to be oiled? There seems to be a slight noise coming from the top when putting it up or down. I was thinking the joints might need to be oiled, if so what do you guys use?

I sprayed mine, I used a penetrating rust proofing spray as it seeps into tight crevices, pretty much any lubricating or oil like product can be used which can penetrate tight spaces. Just be sure to clean up the overspray as it doesn't take much for each hinge.

yeah one of the convertible top TSB's from Honda calls for lithium grease to be used on those areas to reduce noise,I did try it once but I found it hard to get the grease into the tight areas even using a spray type lithium grease, then I tried a penetrating rustproofing spray. I see some rust developing on some of the hinges at times so I thought it would be worth using.

Ive been wondering the same thing! I was thinking maby some silicone grease type lube? like the stuff for the window tracks. I know its not messy and doesnt really leave any residue. Think im gonna try that for all the joints, and then some lithium for the actual gears on each side where the motor or motors? are on each side.

WD-40 is a poor lubricant. It was meant as a water displacer (hence the "WD") and only has light lubricating properties.

I think I will try some Valvoline spray lube when I get the car out in another week or two.

The spray-anyway nozzle and straw should help.

Spray Teflon or spray lithium. Goes on runny, and gels into grease.
