I'm not completely familiar with the US-english language thread dimension terminology, but IMO it goes like this: minor - body - major.
Minor = the core diameter.
Body = half way.
Major = outside diameter.

Metric threads are "named" by their outside diameter dimension.
That I know for sure.
So if a "piece of thread" has a top angle of 60 degrees, a pitch of 0.50 mm and an outside (major) diameter of 2.903 mm that would very most likely go by the name of standard M3.
Simply because there is no M2.9 and it is to big for M2.6

That's the bit I wasn't sure about.

So that makes them M2.6x.5? What is the definition of "body diameter"?
The body diameter would be the diameter of the shaft where there are no threads that the head is attached to. In this case, to the naked eye there is practically no body.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not paying $100 for a new lock handle to get two small screws.

Response from the guys at this website:

It sounds like what you have there is an M3 x 0.5 x 5mm machine screw.

Looks like I'll have 48 extras.

Try Ace Hardware, I got my replacements there but you will need to spray paint them black. I'm sorry I can't help with the size but if you take one you should be able to match it no problem. Loctite would also be a good idea on all the screws to ensure that they stay put.

I went to Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot, Fastenal, and one other place... the smallest thing I could find was M5.
