b est way to find out, top out 2nd gear and find out if 2nd gear goes higher than 77, if it goes to 80, then you are ok...

Yeah...I don't think you may be as ok as some others say. At the speeds you are talking about you went over 10k rpm. Obviously you didn't drop a valve. But it is likely you weakened a retainer. Start saving now to have the retainers replaced as soon as you can afford it. Should be about $500 with parts.
Right now you have a time bomb under the hood. You may be fine for 50k more miles with no problem...or you could have 5 more miles. When the retainer goes...bend over and open your wallet wide.
At least you will need a head job...at worst a whole new motor.

As of now, I've found 14 S2000s with broken retainers. All of which showed no symtoms at all, not even noise. Even a few (including car #1 Jacko above
) where the retainer was cracked so bad it was cutting into the rocker and scoring the cam. NO symtoms at all.
Fact: compression and leakdown tests are 100% useless when looking for a broken retainer.
Fact: A broken retainer can survive for 35K miles before it lets the valve go and drops it into the cylinder.
Best advice, within the next 5k miles, have the valve cover removed and have the retainers inspected by someone who knows exactly what to look for.
I've had s2k customers in my shop, with a pointer showing them the damage, and they still don't see it.

Judging by your post I highly suggest you get your valve train looked at ASAP

Its my claim to fame being Billman's first customer with this issue and as he said I had no idea anything was wrong till he inspected it I can say without any doubt in my mind that Bill had saved my engine.... not to mention getting me all fixed up within a few day so I could still make it to the dragon if I had not taken it to Bill I would of blown my engine at some point driving down to the dragon.... this is why I say to you go get it checked and anyone else reading this get it checked even if you think your ok it doesn't hurt to get it inspected and get a valve adjustment while your there Thread
