Differential Problems
so i picked up a brand new 2007 s2000 2 weeks ago...and lately the rear end has been making a whirring noise when ever i turn or make a u-turn. i know this is a common noise with our cars but it steadily got worse. so i took it to a dealer and had the shop foreman ride with me. he heard the noises.
honda just called me and stated that there were some metal flakes when they drained the diff...and they said that it can be just from the differential breaking in...but the fluid itself was black. they advised that its gets flushed then if it happens again...new diff.
im a little upset. i picked the car up with 6 miles right when it was delivered and i was the first to test drive it. i don't burn out, do donuts or launch.
can anyone support honda's theory that i mentioned?

Yes, normal for the most part. There will be some metal in the oil with brake in, dark fluid is common too.
The question is how much metal came out with the oil and what was on the magnetic drain plug??????????

You mentioned in your other thread that you took your car to Norm Reeves. I'm just curious, what diff fluid did they put in after they drained it out?
The last time I took my car to Norm Reeves, they ended up putting in the CR-V diff fluid. VTM dual pump is what they called it.

"oh..don't worry...we use what recommended for the car..not the CRV or Pilot fluid."
so that put my mind at ease.

*UPDATE*
so the dealer strategically places chassis microphones around the rear end of the car and on the differential. and guess what..noise is coming from the differential. new differential is on order and being installed next tuesday..w00t!

ok, here it is. run this diff for 1000 miles. THATS IT.
then put in LE1605.
honestly, if it were mine, i would put the LE1605 in the day you get it back. brand new.
i promise that dealer is not putting in the correct fluid, they dont even have it, and cant get it.

My 05 had a moan when I went around a sharp corner at low speeds. I changed the diff fluid from AMSOIL to the LE 607. I also went into a parking lot and drove around in circles back wards about 10 times - diff hasn't made any more noise.
