Default Electric Steering problem, help!

I've just bought a cheap s2000 for a weekend/track car. The electric steering wasn't working when i bought it and was told by the previous owner that it just stopped working a few months ago and he hasn't got the time or money to fix it so he wants the car gone.
He said it might need a new steering rack so i bought a second hand steering rack off a breakers yard and had it fitted but the electric steering still isn't working??? i then changed the EPS box under the bonnet as i was told that might be the problem but still nothing.
Can anybody please tell me if there is anything else that might need changing or checking. i am really confused and can't seem to put my finger on what's wrong with the EPS system. also where is diagnostic port located on the s2000 as i can't find it???
Please help, your advice will be appreciated....

diagnostic port is on the driver side under dash close to center console, I think it is a white coloured trapezoid shape connector. Check the fuses ?

pull up wiring diagram and start checking....

actuate the motor, to see if it works,
then check wires for continuity
check the relay...

Is the EPS light on?

Once you find the diagnostic port (might be under the pax side of the dash since you have a 2000), short pins 9 (brown wire) and 4 (ground) and the light should blink in sequence long blink is a 10, short blink is a 1. <long><long> <short><short><short> = 23.

then you need to find out what each code means... a factory service manual would help. In the meantime click on the two links below:

On the 2000 year cars, here in the US, the diags port was on the passenger side of the car, under the dash. So for you with a RHD car, it could have been on the drivers side.
