You do know you have a O2 sensor on the cat right? If you remove the cat the sensor has no reading so yes you will get a CEL. There is a way to bypass it but I don't remember so you better start using the "search" feature of this site.
2 things to consider from reading previous owners experience with straight pipes. Performance gain is minimal to non existent, you get really bad gas mileage, and you get the CEL.
