Default Engine Light on after changing Cluster..plz Help

Hi Guys,

im desperate after a technial advise,

I have a 2000model Australian delivered AP1.

I just had to replace parts of my dashboard including the cluster, due to fire damage.

now when i plug in my new cluster i get the 'check engine' light on.

it goes on after about 5 second after turning the ignition on or starting the car and stays there.

When i plug my old half melted cluster in everything is fine.

Has anyone had this before? i realize there is a slight milage difference between the two clusters, is this why the engine light comes on?
and is it just a matter of clearing the light with a diagnostic tool?

or do i have to actually purchase a matching ECU for this cluster.

ANY HELP IS KINDLY APPRECIATED.

Thank you.

Just a guess but maybe you had the CEL before and something was melted on the old one which explains why you didnt see it?

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then hook it backup. Check and see if the CEL comes back. If it does get an OBD-II code reader, pull the code, and search for it on the internet.

Hi thanks for the reply.
No, the CEL definitely was not on before. Even when i plug in the old cluster it doesnt come on.
I've tried disconnecting the battery for over 24hours, but it didnt help.
Ill try with the Code Reader to determine or clear it.

I dont understand how can it come on just by changing the cluster.
it doesnt quiet make any sense.

Best bet would be to see what kind of code it throws up... then go from there Don't know if there is much electrical differences etc that would cause voltage imbalances etc and make it think that there is a problem to throw a CEL...

thanks Nick,

well figured out the original cluser had a blown globe, so it never showed the Engine light on.
and the new one obviously shows it since it fully functional.

i figured it was a Blown O2 sensor, which i changed.
What even more freaky is now, is that after I changed the O2 Sensor, I cleared the data with an GARMIN scan tool (quiet a pricey scan tool from my mates work shop), and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEP COMING UP, however the Scan tool says "no trouble codes"

By the looks of it, ill have to get it into Honda and use their Honda P-code scanner.
