Fuel additives or cleaners
I have been using Lucus injector and upper engine lubricant around every 2-3 tankfuls. I'd use it with each but I forget to put it in each time. I buy it by the gallon and really cuts the cost per treatment. I seem to be able to feel a very slight improvement in perfomance while the Lucus product is in the tank. I had similar results with a 97 Miata that I previously owned but the perfomance improvement was more pronounced. I've also seen good results from Chevron with Techron additive in the past but I no longer have access those gas stations.
I remember reading an article in a car mag a few years ago. It was a break down of RC Engineering's services and an interview with one of RCE's top guys. The guy was talking about varnish build up on injectors and "mix in the tank" cleaners. He said if you put an additive into the tank in a great enough proportion to actually clean your injectors, it would destroy your fuel system and wreck the engine. He said the small bottles of "cleaner" that is sold on shelves are just a sugar pill and have virtually no effect. RCE does injector cleaning, rebuild, and flow enhancement so he may have just been trying to get a little more business. IDK. Ive tried to get varnish off injectors before and it takes some pretty strong stuff and some scrubing.
Toyota sells a fuel injector cleaner in a small can (6 ozs maybe). They say specifically in the instructions to add to 1/2 tank of fuel and burn the entire tank within a week or fuel system damage might occur.
I have used many fuel additives over the years. But for the most part, a professional cleaning (BG or 3M) produces the best and subjectively noticeable results.
I started using this product recently added to the fuel in my vehicles:

It puts a smile on my face when I use it in my 2000 Tundra V-8 fuel system. I can't say I've noticed anything spectacular in the S2000 yet though, except it seems to be a pretty good UCL.
