Brian,
What's a CEL? BTW I also drive an 11 second (without NOS) 55 Chevy on the street and one day decided to install what I thought was a cool fuel filter. My engine builder buddy said it would be a problem, but I couldn't see how. With the filter installed the car would hardly run at all, and frankly I still can't see why, but putting the funky old filter back cured the problem.
Take care,
Jim

CEL = Check engine light.
The ECU has short term, and long term fuel trim. A 20% correction from the base maps for each, I think. When running closed loop, any adjustments by the ECU to keep stoich are fed back into the fuel trim. So if the pressure's a little low, the ECU corrects for it with the trim. But if the trim reaches the limits, the ECU turns on the check engine light, indicating a problem.
I can't explain why changing the fuel filter helped my car out - certainly the filter didn't look bad. Could simply have been a problem with the fuel pump connections. I'm just happy that it was sorted - tocuh wood, over a year on and it's not returned.
-Brian.

Hey, Mach5
As I said, I don't know about the fuel system architecture and I don't own an actual S2K. Just the motor and tranny. On my last pass before the fuel system wouldn't work at all, I noticed in the data logs the air/fuel ratio climbing as the pump was dying.
The next time I turned it on, it would run but produced no pressure. Since they are a sealed unit, and I needed to run, I just raced to the auto parts store and got a generic which is still working fine, although it probabaly has less than 20 minutes of run time on it.
Sorry I can't be more definitive.
All the best,
Jim

Mach5,
My car doesn't "handle". It just goes straight. It's a ground up race car, about 32" tall, and about 26" wide at the front wheels narrowing to a point at the back. Rear tread is 14". Weighs about 1800 lbs with me in it. It's got 2.56 rear gears, and I calculate that it might get mid 14's in the quarter at around 120. A little lopsided, but remember, there is no "launch" with this car.
All the best with your dreams,
Jim
