Default Hard to get into reverse.

I don't have any problems getting into any of the forward gears but it's really difficult for me to get into reverse. I know you're suppose to push vertically down and then put it into gear. My problem is that the shifter feels like it doesn't go down at all. It takes a few tries and engaging/ disengaging the clutch for it to go in. And even then it feels like it will pop out of gear.

I read some older threads and found similar cases but I know it's not on all cars because my friends car and an AP2 that I drove doesn't have this problem. There doesn't seem to be a solution to this problem from the threads that I read. Do I just need to get a new shifter??

There is a plastic bushing at the base of the shifter. It may be worn and cracked...if so, it's possible that it could have shifted position to where it is making it tough for you to get into reverse.

You may also have an issue inside the tranny.

It will be impossible to tell without someone mechanically knowledgeable putting their hands on the tranny.

I would post up in your local s2ki forum and ask for a shop recommendation.

I'll try selecting a different gear first. Not really sure if I can pull up on it. Never tried.

I just looked at the service bulletin regarding the shifter problem. I'll just get it fixed and not have to do these tricks just to get it in gear.
