ok, heres the story.
im driving about 70 mph in 6th gear just cruising along then my car just dies. my radio stays on, headlights stays on, instrument panel background light stays on but the MPH, rpm meter, temp guage, gas guage all turn off. it was weired, i never seen this before. anyways, i pull over and start my car again and everything works fine. anyone know what could have caused this problem? thank you

 

Does your car have an alarm? OEM or aftermarket?
You need to provide more info.

I was going to guess it had something to do with an alarm system but that's now ruled out.
Maybe your ECU had a brain fart and for whatever reason thought the key code was not the right one, disabling the fuel pump. But then, you said the instrument panel went blank too, so this might be an indication of a more critical ECU glitch.

 

should i take it in to the dealer? how are they gonna figure out what went wrong? anyways, i drove it about 50 miles on the highway just now and everything seems to be fine.

If it offers any value, I had the exact same problem when I had my 1995 Eclipse. Just cruising along at freeway speeds and the car jsut shuts off. It would do this probably once every other day.


XViper is dead-on. Problem is faulty ECU. My dealer replaced the ECU and it never happened again.
