Default Loud bang = main't req'd light

I was driving home last night and I hit a slight bump in the road. I simultaneously gassed the car and there was a pretty loud bang/ping. It sounded like someone threw a rock at my car... I started driving and the main't req'd light started to blink. Everytime I start the car... the main't req'd light blinks... but then turns off. The car drives fine now... does anyone know what happened or had a similar thing happen to them? Thanks for the help!

Edwin

It means that about 7000 miles have passed since the last time the maint required light was reset. You can do it yourself if you like. With the car entirely off, hold down the trip meter reset button, insert the key and turn it to the on position. Keep holding down the button and after a few seconds the light will go out for another 7000 or so miles.

THanks for the input Elistan... but do you know why it started blinking (while I was driving) the moment I heard the bang?

Happenstance. The bang is not related to the flashing maintenance required light.

in other words, the maintenance light just happened to come on the same time you heard the bump.

read your owner's manual and the light will magically go away.
