E-manage for me. Are readiness codes saved even if the ECU is reset? Just in case I get an emissions related CEL before I do this mod or if I dont do this mod properly.

NYS inspection goes like this....

There is no emmisions gas measuring from 1996 and up, only an OBDII query which checks for codes and monitors, and the CEL comanded on. So pulling the cel bulb won't help

You can fail for a visual "no cat present" but most guys will see the nice car and not even put it on the lift.

If you show up with a few incomplete monitors, you can get a ten day. but not if it fails for a CEL first.

1996-2000 can have 2 incomplete monitors, and still pass the test

2001-2003 can have 1 incomplete monitor and still pass

2004-2005 are safety only, at this time

So an 02 sim will get you through, provided the tech doesn't fail you for a no cat.

Once you reset the ECU, all your monitors will be incomplete, or "not ready". You will then need to drive the car within it's designated drive cycle, until the conditions are met to reset them. Each one has differnt needs to complete, the cat monitor will take the longest. Can go from one day to one month or more, depending on driving style. You can also get data for each rediness code, that tells you the exact conditions to drive in for a quicker readiness.

Advice...don't reset your ECU, or interrupt battery voltage, anytime nearing the time your sticker is up

Well I have an 05' S2k with a muffler shop 3 inch exhaust connected to the stock y-pipe and some ebay mufflers. Because I'm not dropping 1k on a titanium exhaust, just yet. I did the mechanical 02 mod and it didn't work. I disconnected the battery then a week later my check engine light came back on.

I could have bought a burger for those four bucks, or some gas.

Pull the code. Maybe it's something else? Where did you put the O2 simulator? Did you use 2 of them stacked together?

I did put two stacked. I put it in the bung the muffler shop welded for me, in the stock location. I don't know how to pull the code. I just ride around with the check engine on, its new so there shouldn't be any major problems.

"in the stock location" ....................... What does this mean? If it's in the "stock" location, there is already a bung with an O2 sensor in it, so how can you put another one there? So, where is it really?
You need an OBD II reader to pull the codes or you need to find someone who has one. Perhaps Autozone or PepBoys?
Just because it's new doesn't mean there can't be anything wrong. A CEL that goes unattended can be anything and maske other codes that might be there.

If it were my car, I'd weld on a right angle tube.
I supposes you can just leave it till you run over something that'll snag it and yank all kinds of stuff out. Then you can assess what needs to be done.
